    I found this about 20 years too late:

    "Many of us work harder than we want, at things we don't want to do, to afford an existence we'd rather not live. If one hears the call of open places why should he not answer as fully as he can, while eyes will never be keener nor stride more lusty."

    Or this quote (often attributed to the Dali Lama, but actually by some other bloke called James someone...):

    "Man surprised me most about humanity.

    Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.

    Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.

    And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;

    the result being that he does not live in the present or the future;

    he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

    Some clown has suggested we work till we're 70 ,,, got news for you office dweller .
    So, plan is to work another two/three years, I'll be 55 then,, then off around the country looking and seeing what the rest do, with maybe a little bit of work in between if I can get it.

    If all else fails and I have to come back to earth early, I'll be mucking around doing some car restorations to fill my time
    The government is progressively raising the retirement age to 67. In my case, its 65.5. That would mean I had worked for 47 years.

    I'm 41, and love my job and the people within it, but I'm bored.. I want to do my own stuff now. I don't ave the capital to stop working, but I'm looking to change something. Would love to sit and watch the world go by, get to see more of it. Once the 101 sells, the next few yrs will be spent building a 'Spudboy Style' camper, and if we love it, we will sell up and take to the road.

    Yep, and to add to all, we are victims of our own greed.

    We start in life with nothing, start working, want more, work harder or more hours to get more, then put ourselves in the position where we have to keep working in order to "pay off" our greedy little lives.
    Essentially, the more we get, the more we want.
    If we were prepared to live with an old car, a modest house, were careful how we did things and were a little bit "self sufficient", we would be a lot freer of a lot of stress.
    Having said that, nothing's free in life, (because of all the other greedy ****** ) I might have to see if I can swing some overtime this weekend

    If i could give up my mandatory overtime , and get the time back for working through breaks and lunch i would. If the rest of my co workers did the same there would be enough hours to fill to support at least 4 to 6 others. Across the entire economy that would sure add up to a lot of work and taxes paid into the system and not in welfare payments. In the mean time no big spending , pay the bills and save a few bucks , all on basic wages.

    I'm not sick of working as I enjoy my work, but I am sick of sharing my workplace with idiots. If you're in the transport industry it seems W H & S stops when you hit the road.
    If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    I've noticed that as you get older, the percentage of idiots in the population grows larger.
