Grrr!!! So mad, I just drove back from town and there was cement being spread again and it was half over our lane so you literally needed to drive through a thick layer of cement powder!! Thankfully I was not in my new Land Rover, but in my F truck, but all the same I did not want to drive through the thick cement so I drove over as close to the cement drain as possible.. I arrived at the fire shed where I was going and heard a noise, it was my tyre, it had been speared in the side was by what must have been a sharp metal protrusion at the edge of the road. Now I am up for two new tyres on the front!!!!! I am so sick of these monkeys on this road work. Why would they have a metal spike sticking out of the edge of the road!!!!!!
Happy thoughts, but I am so darn mad.

I spoke to a mate who does road works. He said complain to the EPA, they take it very seriously.

I am going to ring roads in the morning I am so peed off I cant believe the site manager would not come with me in the car to see what spiked my tyre, I told him I would come with him and show him the exact place where I got spiked. When I told him I was going to look for the spike myself he went on the radio and the road was closed for 20 minutes in both directions.
265 dollars later I have a new tyre, but I am so annoyed!!

I am going to ring the number the site manager gave me after 9am, any thoughts on what might have spiked my tyre with a slice maybe 4 inches up the side wall?
Cheers

Most probably a stake used for setout and level control onsite. Stakes could be timber or steel fence droppers commonly used. Could also be something dropped from another vehicle but less likely.
If a stake as above, the contractor should be paying for new tyres.
Don't know what is going on on that site. Your previous comments about cement application (dust and having to drive through it) are way outside what I would call good practice.

I recieved a form to fill in, it is looking like I mmight get my tyre paid for. Re the cement, I wont be the only complaint for cement on that day, there was a large Rural fire brigade burn and apparently a few of the brigades will also be writing a letter. Also everyone now who moans about the cement issues I will be giving the contact I have to write to, 5 so far. My tyre aside you cant spread cement when traffic is going through and for sure they MUST keep the open lane clear of cement powder. My feeling is health and safety is not taken seriously on this site. I watched 3 guys with no masks on spreading out a heap of cement from where the cement truck had started and had left a heap by accident. All three of them were in a huge cloud of cement.

They shouldnt be exposing the public, their workers or passing vehicles to the cement dust. They can close the road whilst they are spreading it,they dont have to keep a lane open.
As Chris posted, sounds like the site is being run poorly.Wouldnt happen on one of Chris's sites or mine;););). I have 2 cement stabilisation jobs coming up!!!!!!!
Hope they spring for the tyre,I would still go them for the cement dust on the new Deefer.
GOODLUCK

Thanks Andrew,
I hope they pay for the tyre too as it is quite new. Maybe I am getting old, but things need to be done right, but there are 800 residents annoyed in Millstream. I emailed my friend today and he sent ,me a pic back with his finger covered in grey dust and a stripe on the cement film on his car. I told him to send the pic to the email address I was given.
Mistakes happen, but what annoyed me was the site supervisor telling me it was not possible I had driven through cement and him refusing to check for the spike with me, then he closed the road when I went to look for it.
So glad I complained..
