OK so the Rangie requires some work on the ongoing EAS gremlins. At the moment MR Auto are sending the two spare valve bodies I have away for bench testing to see if there's any point installing one of those in lieu of the one I have.
So I have an LR club meeting to attend tonight. No problem I'll just take the Defender. At least I have one Landy that works.
Or do I.
Horrible squealing noise from power steering pump, ATF all over the diff and ground and just about everything else. Hmm, not good (understatement). Top it up with ATF (just about the whole bottle) and drive up to MR Auto (they LOVE me). Long story short - collapsed bearing/s in the steering pump. I need it fixed ASAP so I'm getting a reconditioned pump put in. At least I know it'll work that way. $750 ish later and tomorrow I should have it back. AT least they fit me in at the last minute given the urgency of the situation.
The Rangie is pumped up again (but for how long ?) - hopefully at least it will get me to and from Moorooka tonight. Bloody well had better.
So remind me - why do I drive Landies again :?:

That is really S$&% luck, and neither are something maintenance could have avoided, just bad luck.
Here's hoping you have a trouble free run for a while once this gets sorted out. (considered ripping the EAS out and replacing it with coils, horrible thought, but simpler!)

Hey Vlad
You need a lift
In a reliable Rover
The Disco is going like a train, not even any leaks 8O
You know as I typed that I just thought, crap I've just jinxed it 8O
How about a lift in the falcon
Glen.
Take a deep breath and count to ten (take your shoes off if you'd rather count to twenty  ). You're dealing with 10 year old vehicles.
Compare these costs to the ownership of two new equivalent vehicles lease or loan repayments. Sure they wouldn't break as readily and these issues would be dealt with under warranty but it would cost you a "bomb".
And further more you would be destined to spend the rest of your virtual life on the Overlander Forum slagging off Land Rovers.
Chin up, Mate.

Vlad, you drive Land Rovers because you're obviously a man of good taste who wants nothing but the best.
I mean look at the two LR's you drive, a defender, the best offroader there is.
And a rangie, not just a 4wd but a luxury vehicle at that, and the best luxury 4wd there is.
Stick with it! You can do it! It IS worth it!
I've been lucky, six months and counting with not a single hiccup with old RR, and it's 21 years old. First six months with my last Zook was a very different story. What doesn't break us makes us stronger...............

Chin up vlad, buying a rangie, especially an older one with all the gizmos is always a risk, but its one we are all willing to take cause we love landies. Things wear out there is nothing you can do about it, wear and tear is totally different from unreliability. Things on toymotors and ****an petrols wear out, but you wouldnt hear that anywhere. Matt

Vlad,
you've just had a holiday, the Rangie and Defender died, all contributing to wallet ache, plus you broke the bus going to the Pinnacles. Things will pick up now!
