    recomend a melbourne LR whiz

    Hi Guys,

I'm visiting Melbourne shortly and I'd like the dear D1 to be tuned and have the injectors cleaned and a general tidyup.

Anyone have a recommendation, that won't cost a zillion bucks and can do the job properly?

    Thanks everyone,

One other thing, whats the goss on snow chains, I think I'm going to need some for the few days I'm in snow country.

    Cheers, GQ

    Thanks incisor,

I'm also curious as to recent experience and satisfaction as I'm only in Melb for a few days before the big drive north, another great family adventure in the Disco!

Also, I've seen on the net, 12 volt dc car heaters, but only on US sites, up here no-one knows.

Reckon I might find a Melbourne outlet with such? Any thoughts fellow LRs?

Everyone recommended Rangie Spares to me in the tech thread as i am looking for suspension, i live in NSW so have never been there, i rang them today to talk to them and the bloke i spoke to was extremely helpful. Based on that i would say they were pretty good. Matt

Well I can now tell you this much guys. The Disco I bought 6 weeks ago had previously been serviced at *** in Ringwood for most of its life. They did the RWC for it on 6/5/05, and part of that was replacement of the brake proportioning valve which was leaking fluid and stripping the paint on the inside of the guard. they fitted a S/H unit, and I noticed the whole area was wet with fluid when I collected the car. I left it some 2 weeks to see whether or not it was just wet from fitting or more wet from more leaking. Admittedly I should have told *** about it at the earliest possible time, but I wanted to see for myself what it was doing so that I couldn't have the wool pulled over my eyes. 2 weeks ago I cleaned the whole area and removed the paint which was now buggered from fluid leakage, and to allow me to confirm 100% that it was leaking.

After my chat this morning with *** I can safely say they won't be touching the car. I was told that since the work was done for the previous owner there was no warranty on parts or labour for me. I reminded them that it was done for the RWC for ME TO PURCHASE and that I am a NEW customer. They weren't interested, saying that their warranty for used parts was only 30 days. I commented that they were being a little slippery about this and that it was poor darts to offer nothing in terms of good will. If he'd done his homework they'd know it was due for a major service. I also asked about some used seats and what they would ask for them. Knowing that they had tried to sell them on Ebay and had no takers for the starting bid of $200, I found their offer of $300 a little steep! I politely declined, and mentioned that I knew they'd tried to sell them on Ebay and got nowhere for a lot less, and that as a new Rover owner they'd pretty much done everything to convince me not trouble them again!

Now I think everyone is entitled to comment about good AND bad service they receive. Yes mechanics have to make money. But that doesn't mean my wallet is opened at their convenience, nor that they should be able to wash their hands of work previously done.

However on a positive note, I did speak to Glen at Roverland this morning, and he will get the gig next week of supplying and fitting a new part. He was more than helpful and was not surprised I was peeved! Good advice and a totally different attitude!
