You have your opinion, I have mine. I've been around a long time, a lot longer than you I suspect, also been a Union member for all of my working life.
I ain't interested in your figures, I don't mind your name calling etc, or any other personal "stuff', ....that's what you guys always do.
What I do know, is what is fair & reasonable, and I say that a 15% increase, in the current economic climate is unreasonable,...simple as that....obviously your opinion & mine, with respect to that, are different, very different.

My 'new' work is consulting work on Supply Chain & Logistics - both Mining and Steel and we are exploring propositions for value added services and reduced costs.

Meanwhile, my wife has lost ALL her benefits prior to April 4th which includes all her LSL, Annual leave accrued etc...

There is light at the end of the tunnel, I believe there will be a Salary reset across the Mining sector and this will flow on.

As for how much people are worth an hour - relative calculation really.
Some under value themselves, some over value themselves (sometimes significantly), others measure value by the "benefits of their work" to the business..

Some businesses need to adapt, some people need to as well.. But mostly we have it close to correct.

One thing that does need adjusting -
We no longer have a Day worker society (5/2)
We need to accept Saturday and Sunday are no longer the traditional and accept that different industries have different requirements.

Me - for years I did full shifts and FIFO where I worked 16hrs a day (declared) and paid for 12hrs a day.

Add to that upon returning home if my wife's shifts didn't line up we didn't see one another for 3 weeks at a go... It's the price paid...

My commercial contract was fixed salary regardless of hours worked..

Whilst there are those taking advantage in all industries, a majority of the people I've had contact with earn their pay...

Penalty rates are a political issue so can't be addressed here, but I can see a wage freeze for a bit in sa similar to ours to help in the restructuring process.

Tombie, I didn't know it was legal to delete or remove a persons annual leave/ lsl as in a closure they are paid out AFAIK by either the administrator or the govt to a certain limit?

Emma is like I was - Commercial contract (staff).
This means she is a creditor and as such would need to lodge a claim for monies owed and then 'get in line' with the other creditors.

Wages guys are protected.

In the administration process do you have representation within the creditors committee through Steve Cook representing the non unionised staff.

This year no bonus or Salary increase for Executives, it all went to the lower ranks, no not all Management are automatically arseholes, as some would say,

My Salary is reasonable but not fantastic, considering:
Isolation/remoteness
See my family 3/4 times a year & ditto the defender
In the 4 years ive been here there has been an attempted murder of an expat out of a pool of 20. Mainly arseholes who dont treat the workforce properly. But its still a high ratio. One reason there is a cattle dog asleep next to me.

But love the place, the people, the job, my choice, no complaints .

Hopefully all groups back this and not just state members, but federally both sides as well.

Obviously, NO-ONE wants Whyalla to "Go Under",....NO-ONE does.
However, "rhetoric" is easy,... every "realist" knows that.
So, I will wait until I hear what the Administrators make of this, whether it helps the REAL situation, or not, because they are the people that have to put a REAL, long term solution in place, that will not be placed on rhetoric, but long term, financially achieveable, economically viable, FACTS.
