cant it just,, well,, escape?
We have a real problem.
SWMBO has bought mobs of chicks over the past couple of years.
When she has bought the chicks she has had no idea if they are chickens or Roosters. Hence we have ended up with 4 Roosters.
The first 3 of these have been no problem, yes they do what they do to the chooks but have never worried us.
The 4th, largest Rooster is different. He is mean & has attitude!
He constantly stalks & attacks both SWMBO & myself.
This afternoon I went up to the shed & he attacked me from behind & got 3 good strikes in before I knew what was going on. He constantly stalks & tries to attack SWMBO to the point she is getting paranoid about him.
I can't bring myself to kill the thing.
I am in the process of building a chook pen, which I should have finished before I go back to work, but SWMBO said she isn't going in there if the Rooster is in there.
So, what do I do with this Rooster? It has the whole family living in fear to the stage where the kids come running inside if they see it around. SWMBO takes a stick & 2 kids with her just to hang the washing up.
Hell, the thing even has me bluffed.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

BTW It is mainly for SWMBO's comfort as I'm at work 3 or 4 weeks at a time.

Bite the bullet, or in this case, axe.
Have a traditional Sunday roast.
Take it to work when you go back.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I am pretty sure you can cut the spurs off of them - check with a vet.
Growing up we had a mongrel rooster like that (he was especially agro when you were wearing gum boots) - we walked softly and carried a big stick.
When you get the pen built - just leave him out for the foxes.
Do you have a garage? (make it air tight)lock him in their with a petrol vehicle running for awhile
We used to do the same thing - take in chicks not knowing what sex they were. When they grew up and we knew what they were, the chooks stayed and the roosters would end up on the table for tea - simples.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
It has to go,they are dangerous.
If it gets a child, and they go down it will keep the attack up.
Older roosters arent worth roasting, tough and gamey like a duck, his destiny would be a casserole or curry,or pet food.

There is a very simple way of sexing them from a young age without looking up their bottoms.
Simply get a large sheet of cardboard or anything similar, make a shadow and pass it over the young chooks. The roosters in the mob will stand tall to protect the hens will crouch down, its a natural reaction to a threat from a hawk or eagle overhead.Well worth experiminting with, you can then keep your roosters seperate and bulk feed them for the table

Take back control of your empire you Whoos. This rooster has taken over control of the chookhouse and your own family. Who is 'Cock of the Walk'? Obviously not you! Strike back! Or be a chicken forever.
