Chris,
Did that nasty noise turn out to be the viscous fan under load?
Regards
Andrew
Sorry to mix threads
Since you are towing have you looked at the TM4 engine saver or similar, to monitor temps better
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Yes it was the fan thankfully. My temp has not moved at all the whole trip (half way on the dial) even on big climbs so I had not really worried about cooling.
Bit annoyed though that both my rear mud flaps have folded them selves up round the wheel and munched themselves. First the drivers side then the passenger side yesterday, I though the noise was a wheel bearing or something.
Chris
Thanks
There is nothing wrong with Omarks, my missus still has one in .223 she wont let me sell. The main reason I went over to Barnards is the ability to swap them into different stocks (Barnard aluminium bedding blocks) and with teams the team have spare barrels in Barnard fit. Accuracy wise though I have shot a 60 with 8 with my Sportco so they are as good as anything IMO.
