Land Rover experience, anyone done it?

I just received a free voucher for the Land Rover experience is it worth doing?
I am actually quite competent at driving 4x4's, I have crossed many creeks and years ago I did the Laura to Maytown track in an old HJ45 troopy. On the farm things can get quite challenging especially at the rear of the property. Could I really learn anything from the Land Rover Experience?
Also do you use your own 4x4 on the experience or do you use theirs? Not too worried to use mine but I would be less inclined to go if I have to spend hours flushing dried liquid mud out of the rad and from all the nooks and crannies when I get home.

Hi Chris,

I haven't done it, nor do I have a land rover at the moment (I'm looking to buy soon), but from what I have read recently in my research the modern land rovers with Traction Control require a completely different approach to drive effectively off road.

I don't know if the Land Rover Experience is any good but for free I'd be doing it if I had the time.

It is a good thing to do if you are new to the brand as they go through the specifics on how to use the unique features of these vehicles. Not as much of a revelation for new Defender owners as it might be for new Disco/RR owners with all the traction control aids.

It's also good fun getting to try other vehicles in the range putting them through their paces.

As said by Dan, it's free, do it if you have the time.

I did one years ago, well worth it, and learnt quite a bit. I ended up swapping vehicles with one of the instructors, (my defender for his evoque), they are quite capable vehicles it turns out

Nothing to do with Land Rover

But in a past lifetime I was a yacht delivery skipper. Was kept incredibly busy and was racking up a lot of experience. A colleague of mine was the full time skipper for a wealthy owner and was someone I really looked up to as a mentor. With regards to sailing he had really been there done that.

He needed to relocate his yacht from Florida to Sydney and to do it quickly as the owner wanted to do the Sydney Hobart race. He asked me to help him bring it over.
One evening he told me how he was looking forward to working with me. "Why?" I asked. He answered along the lines of, no matter what he had done and learned in the past he always learned something by being with another skipper. Was very humbling to hear that this man I looked up to realised that he still had a lot to learn.

Suppose that was just a very long winded way of saying Go for it. No matter how good you are, you can always learn something.

I dont know it arrived in the post a couple of days ago

I think I might do it as long as the dealer in Cairns has nothing to do with it up here, well the sales guy anyway.. It is true you can always learn something new and its free so all I have to loose is a Saturday. If I have to do it in my Defender I will but I would rather take theirs up creeks and fill their rads with mud, I love 4x4ing I just hate the clean up afterwards
