Jaguar F-Pace - opinions from LR owners?

After years of teasing, the Jaguar F-Pace (based on the C-X17 concept) has finally been announced.

It's a full aluminium monocoque, shared platform with the Jaguar XE.

2.0L i4 turbo petrol or diesel, or the 3.0L supercharged V6.

Aussie pricing hasn't been announced but based on the pricing of other markets, and a quick review of Jaguar's pricing in Australia, i'd say the 4-cylinders will start around $85k and a fully-loaded supercharged V6 will be around $120k

This is right slap bang in the territory of the Evoque, and pushing into the Range Rover Sport area.

Just wondering what Land Rover owners think about the F-Pace?

No doubt it will capture some Evoque customers. And with Jaguar & Land Rover mostly being at the same dealerships, it's going to sit in the mix of LR products...

    Discovery Sport
    Evoque
    F-Pace
    Discovery 4
    Range Rover Sport
    Range Rover Vogue

That's the new line up. (yes I didn't list the Defender, but that's not really a luxo SUV is it...)

What do Land Rover owners think of the new kid in the family?

Mixed feelings. I own a Jaguar F-Type with the same v6 3.0 supercharged engine, and I can tell you that performance wise it will be exciting to drive and Jaguar has always and continues to do awesome ride and handling.

However looks wise it has some modern Jaguar cues in the nose but overall it just fades into the pack of the huge crop of softroaders, I think the RR Evoque is a better looking car and I would probably go that way if I wanted a mid sized softroader, and if I wanted some decent off-road capability I would try and squeeze into a RR sport or D4 instead.

I suspect that that it will be marketed to a different audience, and be more on road/performance orientated than the landrover equivalents. I also expect it to be very popular in some overseas markets.

The market is dragging all the luxury brands into this segment, witness the recent Bentley etc. So Jaguar have to have an offering.

Still not the sort of Jag that I'd put in the garage, but it's good the see both Jaguar and Landrover thriving and producing great products after so many years of being neglected brands and traded between the majors.

    Cheers

Got to agree with Andrew regarding looks. Not only does it look almost identical to a Mazda, it's almost got the same code! Mazda cx-7 jag model cx-17. The 1 was for the different nose/ headlight setup to avoid being sued for a blatant copy..
I love the jag sedans and coupe/ convertible shapes, but this unfortunately is just a nose job on a generic shape.

I've always liked the look of Jags - elegant, stylish, and oh so Jaguar. But this - hmmph.....it looks just like any Japanese/Korean city buz box.

Jaguar is no longer going to do wagons. These are to replace them so expect more over the next couple of years.

I can't see it.... can you find us a bigger one Pedro

I agree with Andrew, I've always had a soft spot for Jags.... but that doesn't do it for me at all and I cant see it making a real impact for anyone serious about anything off road...even as a softroader.

A bit of Porsche Cayenne with a hint of Audi Q7.

Nope this is not up to the level of what Jaguar used to design, it gives the feeling of a "d?j? vu".

But in Europe soft roaders rule. Look at VW range. Are hatch backs which are a bit higher off the ground with a 4x4 system of some kind. The 4x2 versions are popular. Also the BMW X3 and X5.

These people would never consider going on to grass let alone dirt in their car. Want something that drives like a car but looks like a an urban 4x4. Jaguar is after this market leaving the 4x4 off road range to Land Rover..
