Not sure if this is mentioned somewere already,Used to go there 30 years ago. This was posted on another forum.Dont know if it is correct or not.
Important information regarding Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area (also known as Mount Airly). Now you more than likely have never heard of that area before & you are not the only one.
The NSW NPWS (aka Office of Environment & Heritage) are wanting to place gates on the area. The name above is an Aboriginal name I am told (we have no problem with that in anyway) and was used so that users of Our Parks would not know where the area is & what the Draft Plan refers to. The area is commonly known as Mount Airly.
Today I went into NSW Parliament House and spoke to Robert Borsak MLC (Shooters and Fishers Party) about this.
A letter has been done and delivered to Minister Mark Speakman, Minister for the Environment & Minister for Heritage, asking for the deadline for submissions to be changed & that the Common name of the area be included in the heading, in that way people will know what to look for. We hope to get a good response shortly & will pass that on to members of this page.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Hi guys, I went there yesterday (Sunday October long weekend) - for a look see with the intention of going back later in the year- first time there so wasn't entirely sure of where the track was. I'm guessing I was in the right area. Col's house is to the right hand side of the track and slightly lower, correct? The track runs past and slightly uphill then branches into Airly Mountain trail and Airly tramway trail, correct???
If I was in the right area I can confirm a new gate and padlocks have been installed on Airly mountain trail and even though the signs are NSW National parks, a local shopkeeper told me Col had sold the land to the mines, so it looks like it is no more.
PLEASE tell me i'm wrong and there is another way to get up there.
cheers
I also posted this in the thread to which Ron provided a link.

Thanks Baz, so there is hope left for a quick visit up there. I'll have to do a closer maps inspection. Many thanks Baz.

just checked - yeah, had the wrong track - arrrghh.![]()
If you were looking for Mt Airly Didge I can understand you being where you were as you were on the correct track.
There has been considerable confusion regarding names in the Mt Airly area for years, probably due to the fact that there are two places in the area with similar names.
There is Mt Airly which is W of the Airly Gap Track and 2.5kms NW of Col's place and there is Col's property which he named 'Airly Mountain' and hence the confusion. Although Airly Turret is only 0.6kms from Col's place, the mountain that you access through Col's place is actually Genowlan Mountain.
