interrupting traffic again sorry
Great run in Portland Sunday morning. Always amazes me the extraordinary people I see or meet at every run I get the privilege of running. A husband and wife from SA. She ran the Ned Kelly chase last week 100KM backing up in the marathon today! Both did the Big Red run! WOW tough in our Landies little alone on foot![bigsmile][bigsmile]
Several nice Landrovers spotted in and around the town. Sorry for the traffic stopped or slowed down by my bad habit. I know some people hate bikes so must hate runners and walkers even more.
Soldier On Shirts on a nice lady walker told me her ex- soldier husband was ahead in a shirt as well. Ran into about a Dozen Soldier On Shirts and ran with one for several km. I left mine at home as it chaffed me. I found it was not just me so wrote a letter to them tonight suggesting they change their shirts, Great cause just don't buy a running shirt just yet!
Strongish 15knot head wind for the first 21km at which point I passed the 1/2 marathon start who kindly all gave me a cheer. They took off a few minutes later giving me plenty of new legs to try to keep up with. The run back with a softer tail wind was appreciated.
Children were running a relay and good fun as the loved over taking me again and again at some points. Even ran over the line with 20 school kids who gave me a great race for the last kilometre- yep 4 beat me :D
My GPS watch thing -Fitbit -suggests i climbed 155 flight of stairs during the race. A few people mention the hills are worth about 10 minutes, The head wind might be about the same. If so my 3.36 time less those was my best ever but very happy with backing up from Melbourne with that time. Met another 3.27 Melbourne runner plus plenty of other including a ultra gent whom I dropped off from at a hill he shot up like it was flat. :wasntme:
Chilled the legs in the ocean for a ice bath in Port Fairy. 800km round trip drive for a nice 42.2 run, Nuts it is but fun as this is my second time in Portland for running - lots more for fishing or enjoying this great location.
Volunteers always amaze me with their generosity . Portland volunteers rock as do the organisers and supporting business.

training slow or fast- running for fun
Few more 42.2 under my belt now and even did my first ever half marathon a few weeks ago in the Geelong 1/2 iron man. I over took about 400 people who started before me but as they has all swam 3km and ridden 90km happy to bow to their amazing effort for my mere run! MyIron man - mate and his wife did the lot- amazing efforts. I relayed it with my niece swimming and sister riding. Got to sit for breakfast for over an hour with my niece post her swim and see the fast movers ride and run past- Made my first 1/2 very enjoyable:D
Wangaratta Marathon on Sunday with 10 sub 3 hour runners including a flying Wagga GP. Her records are awe inspiring as are all the other fast movers.
I clocked an easy 3:40 chatting the whole way with a wall hit at 40km reducing me to about 9.5kph for the home run.
A very neat White Defender parked in a driveway and Wang has a lot of other nifty Landies I noted.
Taken up slow training now which needs 'restraint'. 80% low intensity 20% fast training. Using Wang and Traralgon as low intensity and hoping/dreaming to run fast for Melbourne in 6 months.
Got a cool book for Xmas. " The terrible and wonderful reasons I run long distances" The terrible and wonderful reasons why I run long distances - The Oatmeal
If you want a little motivation to move and drop 30kg you might like to have a read. If you want a laugh have a read.
During the run in Wang I met a recovered alcoholic many others who had taken up walking then running to drop 30kgs+. I think their efforts a lot more inspiring than my own. I took up long distance running as I was bored by TV:)
