    Strange phone calls

    The last few days have been getting phone calls on land line. Phone rings use to scam calls. But this is different pick up hand set nothing for 2 to 3 seconds then female voice recorded says good buy. Use to most scams and treatment is normally get ****ed. Anyone else getting these. It is my dad's phone and he needs it for emergencies. He will not use a mobile etc. So limited options. Possibly checking if people are home etc.

    Yeah, we've been getting those for ages. I think it's an automated dialling system and the "foreign" person is supposed to open the connection when a successful connection is made. I guess sometimes the huge room full of foreign persons is too busy annoying the crap out of others and no-one can pick up the call to you in time before the automated dialler disconnects - "beep, goodbye".

    I've been getting calls to my mobile and before I can answer they hang up, after 3 separate days, I got an email from Optus saying they have been trying to call me on my mobiles and if I could do a survey via email.
    Probably only ring a couple of seconds and hang up expecting me to phone back and pay for the call

    Yep. Marketing calls started again after a few months peace

    Got a missed call from this WEIRD # yesterday

    Thought that's interesting, so rang it and got a recorded message saying the number doesn't exist

    Tha "calling number" can be set to show any number the caller wants to by computer software . This has caused real problems for police investigating abusive calls.

    Yesterday I got the one from a foreign gentleman claiming to be from Telstra saying something about traffic on my computer..

    I went along with the call for a little while because I was curious. When I eventually told him I was using Linux as my OS and the key strokes he was telling me to use did nothing, he hung up without even saying goodbye.

    They're probably from overseas, so talk to your phone provider and get your overseas calls suspended for a while.
