In New Jersey you aren't allowed to pump your own fuel. Every servo in the state employees "trained" personnel to pump for you... Of course, it's one of the most expensive stars to buy fuel. I always made sure to top up in Delaware or Connecticut before passing through...

When I was in PNG in 1970, one of the places I visited was a small outpost called Nuku. They had just about finished the second new hospital built in the previous year. The first one was up to the painting stage, when the painters found a wasp nest on a wall they had to paint - do I need to say any more?

From memory it was about 48 cents a gallon.

Mind you, I was a Darwin Award candidate back then. If the boss was not around I would sometimes fill a car whilst I was having a fagg.

I would hold it behind my back though, so as it was not too close to the vapors.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Yeah. It takes roughly 3 1/2 - 4 hours top to bottom to drive through it. There's only a few states you can't..

Well if you're ever travelling around certain parts of Europe in a hire car, pray you don't get a flat tyre.

The nanny state mentality over there has decreed that drivers of hire cars are not competent to change a tyre and, as such, the spare tyre and jack have been removed from the vehicle. You are required to call for "roadside assistance".

Any guesses where the market for unused second hand Mercedes Sprinter jacks sources them from - D3 and D4 owners love them.
    Cheers .........
