    The Zombie apocolypse survival question(s)

you've just heard, the zombies are coming. hell one is 2 seconds away from you.

anything within 3 steps and arms reach can be counted as a valid weapon.

What have you got and how will you fare against the single zombie with it?

IF you dispatch said zombie you have 5 minutes to do whatever you will do before the oncoming horde block all of your valid exit routes. Will you hunker down and wait it out for help or a later opportunity OR will you grab what you can and go.

For me, I'm set with my machette and hatchet out of my DP1 field kit (its on the floor in the computer room and yes I'm cheating a little with that) so against a single zombie Im set.

ID bug out, the car is still over 70% total fuel capacity with 30l of water on board ready to go and filters to make more from stream water., field gear on my back, out the back door via the bedroom for extra socks, jocks step into a pair of boots and grab a spare set. down the back stairs grab the electric chainsaw (firewood work and track clearing if needed not anti zombie... although.....) box, the camp cook box throw that in. throw a swag in, couple of tarps, all the camp food boxes and any additional water/fuel and additional containers I could get on board in time.

I'm then going to get very very upset when I realise that... This mornings coffee was potentially the last one I was ever going to have

(if this fits better in walrus club or camping mods please move as appropriate)

I think I am buggered. Beside the iPad all I have within arms reach is the Apple TV remote (which is so small I'd struggle to find it in my panic) and a glass of wine (which I'd probably want to finish as it may be my last). Both cars need filling and about the only food on board will be some crumbs the kids have dropped. Maybe a stale chip somewhere between the seats if I am lucky.

I think you need to be more specific with what type of zombie invasion we are having.... Walking dead Zombies are dumb and slow - they are relatively easy to evade, whereas 28weeks zombies are fast and pretty smart - although not really propper zombies... they can even climb and use door knobs. Zombie Hunter style zombies can run and are strong, even breaking down doors.

Personally if I meet zombies I want Walking Dead zombies.... so my preparations are for those.

Within reach.... I have a heavy music stand and a dozen bottles of wine.

In 5 minutes... slip out the back to the shed - throw the camper trailer behind the D90 (no5 conversion with rtt for safe sleeping - your swag sounds way too dangerous) it's got 80L water on board, fridge, solar, kitchen, axe, etc. D90 has a bullbar - great for zombie removal and moving broken down cars. I'd probably fill it up at the servo down the road. I'd have to grab some food from Coles after that...

I think you're neglecting to define what type of zombies we are dealing with here. Please refer to the below chart:

For the next 2 sseconds, I'd have to make do dual wielding a set of cable cutting pliers and a steel ruler. I have a lighter and butane can at hand, but there is no easy way to make a flamethrower (it's the type to fill a soldering iron). Plus, zombies don't feel pain, so the only way to off 'em is to detach the head from the body (source- zombie survival guide - Max Brooks)

From there, probably get to the landy short term. Rustle up the missus, who would invaribly take 45minutes to get ready and do the hair etc... so she'd probably get consumed

    Options from there might be:
    1) bunker down in the nearby army barracks 2 blocks away (although this is in suburbia / city limits).
    2) Hijack a boat and take over the island on Chaffey dam (although water is no deterrent to zombies, they can wander around aimlessly underwater indefinately). The water is drinkable and deep, but little to no food there.
    3) Nundle state forest- huge pine plantation, lots of animals (kangaroos, pigs birdlife, fresh water etc). There is a fire tower which might be a good outpost, but there is little to no shelter otherwise. Rugged terrain and space is the benefit here.

Well the disco has about 120 litres of fuel, and a few litres of water in the freezer. Good enough for the first few hours. Gives me time to find the group of stranded and all attractive girls. Next step is to find a fuelled up yacht and hit the seas. If there is food and booze then my final days will be enjoyable

In the event of any scary situation, it's vital that everyone in the house splits up and goes in different directions down dark corridors to get whatever is needed. It's SOP. Arrange to meet up at a later time, whoever doesn't make it is only a bit player.

Thanks Toxic avenger I haven't seen that list before..... it's excellent. Although doesn't' have walking dead on there!

I do think it's important to know what type of zombies we are dealing with. If they are 28 week zombies they will die of pretty quick and we will be all good.... unless one kisses you. That means you only have to avoid them for a short period. The longer they last the harder it would be to survive.

I think the checklist would be something like:
    - Weapon - some sort of non-amo using tool
    - Transport - Obviously with plenty of fuel of the ability to gain more
    - Food
    - Find a group of like minded and well prepared ppl.
    - Shelter - something like an army barracks, jail, fenced community with shops etc... somewhere with a perimeter for defence.

Hmm, a small phillips head screwdriver seems to be the weapon, stabbing into an eye seems to work but maybe a bit too close to the mouth for a first kill!
Plenty of boats around here then off to a container ship waiting to land in Brizzy, pull up the jacobs ladder and sail off into the sunset.
