    Tendonitis

    Anybody had tendonitis (ankle)????
Ive had it for a few weeks, have seen a doc, told me there is nothing that can be done.
Pain killers and oral anti-infamatorys dont work, been using voltarin gel, both in the normal strength and double strength(osteo 12hourly).
It was coming good on thursday, however after a trip to the city yesterday I cant walk again.Im seeing my GP on friday when he is back from leave.
Anybody got any fixes???? Im ready to try amputation using a butter knife. Its making life quite difficult and me very grumpy.

Amputation just below the ears. Just joking. I have a left ankle that is pretty bad. Is it brought on because of a rolling in or out. I wear Asics runners these days that work better than the orthotics I have tried. Get a pair of shoes that suit your gait. Orthotics give me blisters. I do wear the orthotics in my hiking shoes. Even driving the car the right shoes make a difference. Can't help you with the pain but maybe the right shoes could stop the cause.

i have a torn/ruptured tendon in my ankle as a result of a MVA.
    cant run, cant jump.

spent 6 months at the physio doing exercise to strengthen n rebuild.
it helped but tendons dont regrow.

Doc told me it was caused by jumping from the cab of my grader too much.Told him I never do that incase a leg snaps and disapears up my arse!!!!! He told me with my weight thats a pretty good precaution!!!!Cheeky *****!!!!
Could well be from climbing into the cab, trying to use the ball of my foot not the in step now.I get no pain at all from my workboots or driving the grader, walking, well thats what set it off again yesterday

Any form of RSI can only be treated with rest. They will give you all sorts of treatments and drugs and machines that go beep, but the only thing that will treat it is rest and long term rest. Bit tough with an ankle I know.

The trick is to change the way you do things.

For example, in my current job, I developed severe RSI in my index finger and elbow in my right arm. Having suffered previously for different reasons and learned my lesson, I've been working left handed for the last year with the result that my right arm is now normal... unless I go back to my previous practices. Note, I'm not just talking working the computer, there's a more to it in my job.

With your ankle, you need to work out what activity or action has caused it, and change it. Treating it with pain killers and the like is good, but it's not going to go away unless you stop - it's like hitting your head with a plank in that respect.

depends on where and how bad it is.

I had problems with a calf tendon (tied into my compartment syndrome) but I was lucky in that it was where the muscle hooked up to the tendon and not tendon to bone so anti inflammatorys and things like deep heat and muscle massaging (while that hurt like a bitch at the time) all helped.

My phsyio adivsed (from memory) at the time to keep it gently loaded and stretched dont just keep it where its comfortable or you're going to have hell getting it back to working properly.

Reminds me of when I had Plantar Fasciitis, an issue with the ligaments under my foot. I had to change the way I run to not lo load them up and aggravate the problem. Full recovery was 1 - 1.5 years.
    Cheers

I had that on my other foot 8 years ago,it was 2 years before it came good, this is much more painful.

my phisyo made up a leg brace thing for me and gave me some flexi rubber tubing to go onto it, strap the brace and harness onto my quad and strap the waist belt on then hook a loop over my foot then tighten up the bungy till it was noticeable but not uncomfortable.

the idea was that I would put it on after massaging the calf down where it hurt and while the deep heat was getting warm then I'd keep it on while I was resting with the leg elevated but bent at the knee with no load on the foot. Over the time I was in the rig to try and gently extend the knee to "flat" if I could get it to flat that was good and the sign that I was to go and see him again to get the harness adjusted and for more torture umm treatment massage so I could do the exercise supervised again. progress was very quick to start with but after 6 weeks (lots of water exercising and Range of movement) I could walk on it reliably at which point I was returned to more normal stretching. 3 months later I was allowed gentle running but with insane amounts of stretching before and after and then 6 months later I was back to normal running 3 months after that I had my bilateral releases.
