    Hail,...Who worries about it?

Having had a car of ours severely damaged by Hail a few years ago, its threat is always a bit of a worry to me, if We are out & about.
Hail can literally destroy a car, which is not good if that car is your pride & joy.
Just wondered if any of you guys worried about it?

Over the years I have had two cars damaged by hail, with one being written off (wife's Daihatsu Terios) and another severely damaged. The damaged one was a 1970 Austin 1800 Mk2 that was immaculate until the storm hit. It was covered at the time, and the cover was torn to shreds in some places. Now I am totally paranoid about hail storms.

Hail! That's when you stop buses, isn't it?

I rarely see hail. If I do, it's usually about 1mm diameter.

I remember that hail storm a few years back Pickles - a mate had 3 cars written off by it who lives over your way. The Eastern side of Melbourne seems to cop a lot more storm activity that the North West where I am. We did however have a hail storm a week ago that had large marble sized hail but they didn't damage any cars. Thankfully the only cars I really care about I wouldn't be bothered if they were damaged badly by hail - I love the way they drive. The RRC I would still own even if damaged and the only thing likely to happen to the 101 is the canvas getting shredded, so no biggy there.

If you simply can't live with having your vehicle damaged - and I know a lot couldn't, I just happen to have old bangers I care about more, I suppose you just have to hope your pride and joy is undercover if/when it happens again.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

We get some ripper hail storms over here at about this time of the year. A bad one went through west of here a couple of nights ago. Missed Kalgoorlie this time, but a lot of crop damage down around Southern Cross.

Golf ball size is nothing unusual.

I once had a dunnydoor wagon fairly well belted up by gold ball size hail, and also had one of the tail lights smashed on my old falcon ute - it was parked in the shed, so the hailstone either came in at a hell of an angle or bounced up off the ground into the light.

Generally after a decent hail storm up here, all the local panel beaters are booked out for months, and cars are being trucked down to Perth for repairs. Occasionally it's the other way round - a decent hail storm in Perth sees all the panel shops down there booked solid for months, and cars are trucked up here and to other regional centres for repair.

Whenever they're around, I make a point of having both cars parked well inside the shed.

A couple of photos of the aftermath of a hailstorm in Kalgoorlie below.

    Cheers .........

G'Day Gav, Yeah, well we're up the Country at the moment, and there are thunderstorms, & "unsettled" weather all around us, so it's a bit of a worry, ......for those that worry!!
