Last of the 88 inch wheel base

What year did Land Rover make the last 88" wheel base vehicle?
Was the Game the last of the swb vehicles in Australia before Land Rover started to import the Ninety years later?

    Cheers, Mick.

I think I remember Dad saying he got the 1978 game in 1979 because I couldn't be bothered waiting for a new 88" to come from wherever. So possibly there was more?

Hopefully that is somewhat helpful, along with info from others. I'm not old enough to remember that stuff

You mean the last assembled in Australia? I don't know, although I drove a hire 88 in 1980 or 81 that was pretty near new.

Production of the 88 continued until the 90 was introduced in 1984, and I believe one or two were assembled as late as 1990. But I really don't know when assembly or importing stopped here, but they must have been fairly scarce, as all the late Series 3s I can think of are 109s.

Back around 1990 a mate bought a 88" truck cab ex Kings Park Board(WA).It was pristine,4 or 5 years old with less than 20000ks on the clock.

    I have a 1978 88 2.25 ute fitted with canopy.
it has barn door, long range tank, wing mirrors, internal spare tyre and game wheels.

I had a neighbour tell me the storey that he had a 2.25 petrol on a farm late 1970. He was to wait years for a diesel and the 6 cyl was recommended to avoid by the dealer if he wanted to keep it. he traded it on a 3.9d 109 in run out sale after a few years.
