    Thanks mick.

I did a bit more looking and the CBD is a free tram zone so you dont need a myki to get from either the QV markets or docklands to fed square. Hooray!

    Thanks for the ideas everyone.

    Cheers

Fitzroy Gardens used ot be good that time of day as the early birds are heading home.

How does a tourist, me, get a Myki card for a 1 week visit. I remember doing this confused wander through Swanston St ? station on a Sunday about 6 years ago.
Found the web site, not so hard, IF, you know MYKI actually exists and pre plan

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

    News to me.
There is a is a tram but I've never heard of this free tram zone of which you speak. Mind you, it has been some time since I have travelled on a tram in the CBD.

City circle tram, usually the old school brown ones.
They travel both clockwise and anticlockwise and just jump on/off as you like.
    Roughy Flinders-Spring-Victoria?-Docklands-Flinders.
We use when we have a weekend in the city staying on Flinders St.

Not just the city circle - all trams are free in the CBD now - you just have to get there first to use them...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

So got into the CBD by parking at docklands and catching a free tram in to fed Square. As part of this research thing we had to buy a myki card. I asked the lady at the counter and she said "yep, a tourist myki. That's $14 each." The guy from the research company was from out of town and couldn't believe it either. So it cost us $28 to go from fed square to the war memorial shrine - two stops away - and back. I'm sure you can guess what my feedback was!

For anyone else planning to go in top the cbd I can recommend docklands for parking and the free trams in. Cost us $7 for parking for up to 4 hours and it's open 24/7!

    Cheers

Walk to the war memorial as soon as you get to the end of the free tram zone. Fed square to the war memorial is only about 5-15 minutes on foot and you get to see police memorial plus lots more on the way.

There is roof top parking at Fed Square if its not all taken. The height restriction for vehicles is 2.1 metres. See Parking - Federation Square

My D3 with roof rack and jack does not fit in at crown or the lower levels of the parking at Fed Square. Some street parking around the back of the Red cross blood bank is free on public holidays if not already taken.
