    Hello All,

    I know that there is a pretty eclectic gathering of people whom are interested in Land Rovers, so I hope that this query is not too far from left field?

    I went through school to the end of Year 12 and I have a couple of degrees gathering fly-spots while they dwell in frames. However, I have come across what can only be described as a gap in my education.

    I knew about Personal Pronouns - however, I have recently come across such things as: "Reflexive Pronouns". There is also the quandary of the "Iambic Pentameter".

    What body of research do such things as "Reflexive Pronouns" and the "Iambic Pentameter" lurk within so I can squirrel up on gaining some working knowledge of it?

    It would be much appreciated if someone could recommend what texts that I could reference. Probably within the range of "... For Dummies"

    I am researching the formation and maintenance of a sense of Self within Autism. This relates to the development in the acquisition of "I" as a stable pronoun and it has led me towards "Reflexive Pronouns".

    My formative years in education were during the "do not worry about grammar and punctuation, as it stifles creativity" era. Hence, I seem to have missed out on some basic areas of my edumaction

    This is from a long time ago but if I recall correctly iambic pentameter refers to poetry. English and especially poetry was not my strong point at school. Science and maths were my favourites.

    Reflexive pronouns, if I recall correctly once again, refer to the subject, e.g., "I saw myself", "He shot himself".

    Both could come under the heading of "grammar", but "iambic pentameter" is poetry (as Ron comments), and perhaps should more accurately be described as a bit of vocabulary.

    And I can't really suggest any books - anything I am familiar with is long out of print!

    We use a reflexive pronoun:

    • as a direct object when the object is the same as the subject of the verb:

    I am teaching myself to play the piano.
    Be careful with that knife. You might cut yourself.

    Souorce- speech pathologist parther.

    I'm told some good further reading on your field of study might be:

    "Rediscover grammar" by David Crystal. ISBN 0-582-84862-8
    "How children learn language" William O'Grady ISBN 0-521-53192-6

    The former is your idiots guide to grammar.
    The latter is a a text of the language acquisition process in children. Also discusses the experiments / techniques that researches use to investigate language acquisition processes.
