    GMC cheap Chinese gemerators

I have had one for almost three years, paid $99 for it out at Winton. Hooked a vibrater hour-meter to it and is coming up to 500 hours. No problems other than its smart **** owner thought the Chinese spark plug looked dodgy and changed it after about 120 hours for a Champion of same heat range. Champion oiled up after half an afternoon running 12v cooler only. Put the Chinese one back, not even cleaned it since. We use it only for 12v other than a 600w GE coffee percolator that it just runs. I made up a 12v power board and extension lead. Run two lights and the cooler no trouble. Mixing petroil mixture is a bad feature though. Would stump up for a four stroke of higher output next time. In experiment, the gadget ran my 5/8" AEG drill no trouble, but would only operate the heat gun on low setting. A 12v plug-in lead with battery clamps came with it but have not used it yet.

I will second what Matbor said i bought an LG in August 04 and it has been great. I have only had one problem when the cd-rom drive stopped working but apparently (according to the tech support line) its common when people pull on the drive to hard when they eject a disc and it can sometimes become dislodged from the mother board. All i had to do was push firmly on the disc drive and reboot and it hasnt missed a beat since. Matt

I've had 4 laptops in my time - all Toshibas. The first 3 because I could get then cheap 2nd hand and the latest because my computer tech brother said only IBMs and Toshibas are well built - he then bought a Dell on price, the %@^$.

Of the 4, 3 are still running - one 12 years old, one 9 and one still under warranty. I dropped the other one - hard. The 9 year old one got stolen and then abandoned in a park. Left in the rain, found a week later and the police powered it up and found my contact details. That was 2 years ago - it's still going fine.

I've got an 18 month old Compaq Presario.

The letters are worn off a number of the keys - bloody cheap construction.

    my laptop

Numpty's missus uses an Acer. Its 3 yrs old now and not a problem. It gets used and used and abused...Numpty is unable to use it due to there being no letters left on the keyboard anymore. So far no problems with it...have far more problems with the desktop variety (probably all going to fail now, have I jinxed myself?). It just went along the Hay River and got used each day to download the 1500 odd photos I took as well as write a journal of the trip. I bought one of those 12v cigarette lighter adaptors to run it and all worked perfectly.

I think with all things electrical its a case of just how lucky you are.

    Sorry,
But I have had nothing but praise for Aldi. Never had a dodgy product from them. Their rice and sugar and bread is superb as is there selection of canned tomatoes.
Never bought any hardware items tho', they all look dodgy

My local Aldi has a number of the 4-stroke 2000watt gensets at $349.

I always go Toshiba, but thats mainly cause Ive never had a bad one but Ive also had a few Dells... For my money the Toshibas are a little better but only due to the fact that the Dells occasionally have a bad run. Ive had their tech support to admit this but on the plus side Ive never had a problem getting them exchanged.

I once had the stunning result of being allowed to keep the existing unit untill the replacement arrived. Id explained that the screen had gone cactus but was working ok on the VGA out and I needed it for business stuff.

I must say I did a lot of research into our switch to Apple, and their OS is a much better mousetrap. much much better. What's more it's looking grim in the windows world... looks like it's going to get worse for you poor people before it ever gets better... if it ever does..

    VISTA is bug ridden
