Looks like a lot of people at Yarloop never knew the fire was going to hit Yarloop until a short time before it hit and then burnt the town down I about 7 minutes it was moving that fast , they had to gather on the oval for protection .

We had a fire up my way at Moore River/Guilderton last week which was a threat to the whole area and people should evacuate or defend , the only advice we got was on the FESA web page ,not sure about the radio as a bit hard to receive here at times , no local advice for non internet people .
Hope this was not the case for Yarloop .

BM Kal , Good on ya for going down for your mate , glad he was ok .

I saw the results of the 2 fires the other day.The one north still had the 2 car wrecks on the side of the road,it was obvious the dunnydoor wagon started the fire.
We get lots of fires from vehicle accidents, failed wheel bearings.

    Bloody bushfires springing up everywhere.

Just got a message from my young bloke out on a mining site about 120km northeast of Kalgoorlie. They've all been stood down last night and put on bushfire alert. Apparently a fire about 5km north of them and is heading south. No fire brigades out that way - I suppose they'll just get all the loaders / graders / dozers on site and carve out a firebreak and keep any water carts full on stand-by as usual practice on mine sites.

We had lightning storms through here again last night - I'd imagine that's what is starting the fires - and today is the third day in a row of temperatures around 40 degrees - at least it's not very windy at the moment, and there's cooler weather forecast for tomorrow.
    Cheers .........

The Forrest Hwy has re-opened and normality has returned to traffic here.
The local sarge was on the wireless this morning,he said normal traffic thru Williams is 3000+ a day, with the road closures there have been 30000+ a day.
Plenty of minor accidents,I saw a semi trailer vs 2 cars yesterday. We tidied up 2 gravel work sites because they were getting very rough.Went out this morning to provide a rear warning for the water truck driver as people do not slow down to the posted 60kmh.
    We got 2 victims.

The one on its roof travelled 50m or more off the job,the speedo is stuck on 90kmh.How quick was he going when he hit the gravel?????

There were another 2 crashes on the same sections last week whilst we were on holidays.

Yarloop was inside the emergency warning area for 3 days before it got razed, and the warnings specifically said make sure you have an independent power and water source if you are going to stay and defend. Now the Yarloop residents say they were not warned and their water ran out

They also are complaining about lack of air support. Well the planes can't fly at night.
