Question 4X4 Aust Product test on "Oz diesel" - What's your Thoughts ???

OK.... for those Diesel owners out there (specially those CRD owners), who has read the following article and what's your thoughts:

    [4X4 Australia Diesel Fuel Test]

    just curious....

I've been running 2 crd's for 8 years and 1/2 a million kilometres and I'm pretty happy so far without additives. You never know where the facts and paid by sponsors plugs begin and end especially in 4wd magazines. The additive probably won't hurt your car.

Where is the Diesel Fuel Test?

This is just advertorial unfortunately . No procedure . No benchmark . No results.

    that's my thoughts Rob.

It's pity a company like that don't give a couple of bottles of this stuff to Aulro (and any other 4x4 forum) to diseminate and publish factual results.

If it is good it would be the cheapest advertising they could ever have.

It's def an ad but I do want to point out how often we hear a diesel car needing new injectors or parts cause of bad diesel. It's possibly cheap insurance in the outback

    Question

Besides whether it's a paid ad or not..... Does Aussie Diesel really need these additives added to make it suitable for CRD diesels these days?

I've have a cousin that works in the filtering business, and he's constantly hearing customers coming in sharing their costly stories of having to repair their CRD diesel engine and now they're wanting to install extra filters + any other thing that will help prevent it from happening again......

I know CRD engines have been out here in Aus for a long time and that there will be heaps of owners that have never had any issues, so what is the go then ??

I was filling up at a garage on an autobahn in Germany around 4 years ago and they had an attendant coming around generally helping and wiping windscreens etc. I had stopped at the super clean extra refined euro diesel pump and the guy asked me if I really wanted to put that stuff in the car. He basically recommended the cruder blend at the cheaper pumps saying the "good" stuff was too dry and lacked enough lubrication. Who knows? I sometimes put 2 stroke in with a tank and the car runs a bit quieter and smoother, or is it my imagination?

Just an advert it seems from reading it. Can't comment on other states but in Vic, there's only 2 sources of diesel available - doesn't matter who you buy it from. 'Premium' diesel gets a squirt of defoamer in the tanker before it's filled with regular diesel. Only Mobil at Altona and what was the Shell refinery at Geelong produce diesel for our local markets.

Crappy fuel always comes out of a retailers old crappy tank, not from the refineries. just a scare campaign. Find a retailer you trust and have had no known issues with and stick with them whenever possible.

Sadly its true.. Most of the Australian supplied diesel is a very low grade. One of our vehicles is a VW Golf which from new has only had BP Ultimate or Caltex Vortex Premium diesel. We were told that nothing else must go in it. Having seen several sets of injectors go thru the Colorado's at work with less than 150000kms, I believe it too. The VW is now up to 160000kms and without issue. Fuel economy is noticeably better on the premium diesels, even in the Cummins 101 when I had it. I think that's why the cooling oil interests me so much.. We can filter it and end up with a cleaner product than the available diesel. One of the reps at work runs a Mazda ute with the 2.2 Ford engine in it, he's run it on cooking oil from new.. Its now at 180000km and the only thing that's had to be changed is the 'in tank' fuel pump. A Facet now replaces it as it didn't cope with the oil.... Food for thought!
