Bought an 07 Aurion for my wife's car a little while ago. It can really fly.

Well, compared to my TD5 it does.

But seriously, on paper at least its got a 3.5 V6 that outperformed both the Falcon and Commodore 6s at the time. Great car to drive.

NSW Police already have a couple of these.

But never fear, when we have our very own elected president he'll sort it all out...probably from the back of his big Merc with blacked out windows and bullet proof body as he's swept in grand luxury to the airport for yet another overseas jolly meeting similar tossers.
I'm no believer in constant subsidies to industries but this destruction of the local car industry is wrong and may not have been necessary if ALL the myriad hordes of government departments everywhere were forced to purchase Australian built vehicles.
At the very least subsidies would have been much lower.
And many more people would have been employed not just smarty pants salesman and their bosses.

The PM already has a big BMW, introduced under Abbott, which rumour has it is bullet-proof.

In the UK Discoverys are popular with the highway cops. Go well, plenty of room for gear and offenders, and they can chase people off the bitumen.

Give them Nissan Micras, I saw one in police guise in Alice Springs.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

"The PM already has a big BMW," Multiply that by a few thousand less the bullet proofing, and you'll begin to see what it's going to be like. Take every local council CEO, every MP both state and federal, every self important bureaucrap employed by the tax and ratepayer throughout the country and the numbers are enormous.
WA alone has some 240 plus depts. and agencies and probably a few they have forgotten about. The states car fleet is over 11000 vehicles. Every council has fleets of cars.
Think about it. If everyone of those vehicles and all those in the other states including NT etc. had been made here we could have kept our own car industry.
Pollies think only up to the next election. WA bureuacraps think in terms of the 2 year life of "their" car and how they can wangle a better model.......
Believe me I had the misfortune of working for a gov. dept and saw it all going on.
Self interest is at the forefront of their thinking, not the welfare of the car worker or service industries supplying good to it.
    AlanH.
