    Protection for flora and fauna?

There is a proposal to develop open land near here. The block sizes resemble a large hankie and there is no provision for parks, open area or trees. Within this area are a number of ground nesting birds and a colony of echidna, there are also some of the rarest plants in the world, notelea ipsviciensis (pop 17).
What organisation can we get on side to fight the good fight with us? As there are no whales I'm not relying on Greenpeace.
    TIA.

    Good luck with your quest.
Have you considered trucking a whale in?

Write a letter to the leaders of the federal and state Greens. I'm sure they know the appropriate organisations.

Fight it locally. Attend the council meetings. Lobby the local councilors and get the like minded locals to do the same.

Apart from contacting the Greens, the rest is in train. Thanks for that suggestion, Mick.

So, when does the whale arrive?

Locals held up development of the airstrip at RAAF Williams Laverton Base for many years because of a frog. You might hold it up long enough to get on council. It's been done many times before.

Any development proposal should require an independent environmental impact assessment, which should confirm or deny the presence of endangered species.
Ensure the local council requires such a study. Stage a protest to demand it. Invite the local media (if there are any left after regionalization of the media).
Definitely invite the Greens and anyone else (Nature Conservation Council, Environmental Defenders Office etc.).
But get your facts right or they'll shoot you down in flames.

If they don't care about the Barrier Reef, a couple of Echidnas and a few plants have no hope.

I have approached my bank asking for any redundant advertising material.

Is the subject land land in/near Ebbw Vale (ie between Cunningham Hwy and Brisbane Rd, or between Whitewood Rd and Redbank Plains Rd)?
Or is the subject land near Bundamba Creek?
Any more info on the proposal (eg proponents name)?

It is important to know this stuff so you can determine where the proposal is up to; and thus how and to who, to voice your opposition most effectively.

    Cheers

First one Karl, objections have to be in mid-Feb.. We have the local councillor (about to retire), his aspiring replacement and the state member. I feel they are merely paying lip service as the Mayor is very pro-development. A committee has been formed by affected residents. This latest proposal is reneging on previous promises. Some of the residents have recently renovated their homes and were forced, by council, to do so sympathetically to maintain the character of the suburb. This added thousands to the cost of renovation and the developer wants to build a slum next door.
