What do we do when drivers get the message?

Less people are now exceeding the speed limit in Victoria's 40km/h speed zones.
Less speeding fines are being issued.
    Victorians are getting the message.

    So..........

because revenue from speeding fines is down.

Yes it is stupid, i agree in principle but at some point you need to be responsible for your own actions and if you have kids you are responsible for them too.

Been a while since I've been there but Darwin had a good system that seemed to keep everyone happy - restricted speed on suburban streets but no restriction on main/through roads and limits apply 24/7. No worrying what time of day it is or if schools are on holidays or not.

Always makes me wonder why they never try to educate the pedestrian to NOT walk in front of a moving vehicle...? It's amazing.

Controversy warning: Reduce the speed to zero and there would be no pedestrian fatalities. How about if an area is deemed to be a 30 kmh zone, it automatically becomes a bike and pedestrian only zone. Then people might walk more, ride bikes more and redress the balance from, car is king, to human perambulation is king. 4WD's aren't designed for these low speed urban zones anyway. Cheers

PS: I doubt there is a pedestrian alive who would want to be hit by a car. Awareness of human frailty is very important and is not a sign of weakness or allegiance to any fixed belief system.

Yep, if revenue is down from speeding fines they must develop a way to increase the revenue. Nothing to do with safety.
