    Threat from ATO

    Got home from shopping today to find a message on the phone saying it was the ATO and that I was in a lot of trouble and that an arrest warrant would be made if I did not ring a certain No Yadi Yadi Yada .


    2 hrs latter another call with the same jerk on the phone , long story short I gave the phone too my grand kid by and the sound of it I don't think the ATO dick head will bother ringing back again any time soon .

    I have heard of this before. My friend got a msg on her mobile she rang the ATO and was told it was a scam. The ATO said they would never ring you.

    I had one of these calls a few days ago on my landline, Calling number ID . indicated it came from Sydney area. Sounded like a recorded message. Included telling me to ring a similar number with 9 on the end instead of 0. I instead rang Scamwatch and reported it. Reckoned they should check out whose numbers they are. However, answer was that they do not have enforcement powers. Also that calls originating from overseas can be made to look as if they were made from within Australia. I find that plausible because occasionally on ringing a number to check on call I was not around to answer, received recorded message to the effect that the number is not connected.

    ha, i had not heard of this one.
    but asking to meet me in person would of revealed the scam

    That scam has been well publicised lately. As mentioned the ATO never rings/texts you, they always send letters.
