    Is this Arabic

    Hi All,

Driving home last night I spotted a nice D2 in traffic.. Being a Land Rover I had a quick look and noticed the number plate...

Sorry for the poor picture quality - it looked ok on my mobile!

What is the writing above the numbers? Is it Arabic? What does it say?

    Just curious!

It's Japanese. And it says "bikutoria" or "Victoria" in Japanese English.

The characters are Katakana which are used to phonetically write non-Japanese words.

There's quite a few of these plates around, are you sure they're not legal?

i am really surprised that they are legal, another revenue stream gone out the window.

Hm, seems like they are VR issued. Why on earth would you want plates with Japanese characters on it or other foreign themed plates, dont like the euro ones either.

I guess some people want Japanese size plates on a Japanese vehicle the same way people want to match plate sizes for European & American cars. Interestingly, Japanese number plates are a pretty similarly size to Australian ones.

As for why these ones are on a Disco - wakarimasen!

The drivers I've seen with these are Asian, so maybe it's a bit like the little flag stickers you see on cars their just probably a bit proud of where they are from

Same reason some people want random Chinese sayings tattooed on their skin I guess.

They look mad on a JDM car. My sister has ordered a set for her new Skyline, but it is a proper JDM car that came through an importer.
