Yes it's a pity, he took Pirates of Penzance to an altogether different level.

Wife and I saw it twice.

I have played and sung some of his music for 20-30yrs.....I forget how long really.

sad that he died of complications from surgery.

Another one gone, late 60's certainly is a dangerous age if you are a muso. RIP John English.

Terribly sad, just this week I had dragged out his
Best of cds (black label)and have been thrashing it!

Hollywood seven, six ribbons and words are not enough are
by far my favorite songs of his.
Only young but an enduring artist, singer, actor
Lets not forget he was one of Johnny OKEEFEs backing band almost as soon as he left school!

His love of the stage and his command of it were obvious

Remember he starred with Marcia Hines a number of times and numerous bands and stars since..
From 1972 he did over 700 (!) Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas
He starred in the Ned Kelly*rock opera as*Ned Kelly ( don't start me!)
He reinvigorated*Pirates of Penzance*as the Pirate King, played*Rasputin,
was in the Mikado, HMS PINNAFORE, Hairspray (in drag!) , Dads Army (apparently he adlibbed freely in this
and I'm told by a friend who saw it in NZ (i think) was very funny!) And more recently was King Arthur in SPAMALOT!

fairly varied! He was also a trained and qualified stuntman!

A down to earth genuinely funny guy too.

A very talented performer and 'feet on the ground' bloke. Jon ad libbed a lot of asides in Pirates too, demonstrating his keen sense of humour. He was no dill either, having a Degree in Economics.
RIP Jon, thanks for the memories.
