    Who does this and why?

On Saturday I took the Kids and a couple of their mates up to the Ourimbah State Forrest for a bit of fun. We had spent an hour and a half getting up this track (no complaints), when we came across this. It was blocking the track, the rest of which was easy. I'm not good enough to back down a track like that so I had to move it. It was only half a Meter but it took half an Hour, which could have been spent having fun. This isn't only burned out hulk Up there. They are all over the place. It got me wondering. Why would drag a Burned out hulk all the way up here and dompe it in the middle of a track? I might be stupid but it makes no sense to me.

Used to be a common sight round here - but they weren't dragged in - they were driven in and then burnt to ensure a minimum of evidence from the theft. Started several fires, including one pretty major one.

It is years since I have seen one, perhaps because the police started to learn where they were likely to dispose of stolen cars, and maybe they are using somewhere else now, or perhaps even that there only ever were one or two culprits and they are now either long term guests of Her Majesty, moved away, or perhaps even grew up.

We were in there last weekend with Sydney LROC for clean-up day to get cars out. There's a spot where over a dozen cars, uses and vans have been tipped over the edge and down the cliff. Very difficult to recover them from where they are in order to clean the area up. There is a lot of indigenous artifacts etc there as well. You'd think it'd be better for these people to dispose of these vehicles to a scrappy for cash.....unless there's some reason they wouldn't get away with that. It sure makes a hell of a mess.

That's what I thought initially, but then, why not just leave it where you torched it?

If it was stolen and identified wouldn't the insurance companies have to haul that thing back? I cant help but think perhaps it was put there to stop people using the track?

I thought that as well. If you came in there at pace you would be into that section in the photo before you knew it and that would be the end of your car. I did look as though it had been dragged into position from the side of the track. Perhaps it was a good thing that I couldn't drag it all the way back.

    Commodore haters for fun.

What young lads do is nick a car and go for a joy ride. They do things such as driving over street signs. Then they park it in an out of the way spot and torch the evidence.

To stop people from using a track, forestry people usually just fell a tree across the track.

Does not appear to be burnt at that location though.
And i think OP said it was dragged there or so it seems.
Nor do i suspect it would be easy to get there if the pics of that track are before it.

Hahaha yea they do too. I had to drive over a whole heap of them only days ago.... I guess they should use thicker trees if they want to stop me.

I went through there a couple of weekends ago and the car was there though we could drive around it easily. I understand that some people destroy and dump cara for fun, but who would then shift the car so that it blocks the track? Maybe someone should hide a gopro in a tree...

    Cheers

    Dan
