It's very invasive, gets into every nook and cranny. If you were the type of car buff who likes his car kept in concours condition, You may reject a car with red dust. My Rover wears it happily when it occurs.
Don.
I was looking at car adds and noticed one that was cheep for the age and km on the vehicle. The add said cheep car red dust.
I was intrigued and phoned up to ask why the car was so cheep. The dealer replied "it has been driven on red dust roads and there is some red dust in the car"
Can anyone enlighten me as to why red dust in the car drops the value?
is it that hard to get out?
Does it mean that it is likely to have red dust in the engine?

Puts off most care dealers as it typically means it has been used for purpose.
Usually means the owner wasn't too concerned about cleaning and translates to the same attitude with maintenance.
Red dust from some parts is very helpful in the corrosion process, bauxite in the top end played merry havoc with cars, aircraft and just about everything, although the climate aided this too.
If the vehicle has a lease/mining/ commercial history= probably better to steer away.
Private history = buyer beware, may pickup a good vehicle that's simply dirty.
Red dust in the Aircon and ventilation ducting isn't pleasant, would involve pulling entire system apart to clean, just as a car that had a heavy smoker. Turn on the fan an choke on the smell and dry throat feeling.
As said before, a filthy interior often reflects on the cleanliness of owner and probably lack of maintenance attitude.
it absorbs and holds moisture it carries mould spores, its corrosive, its abrasive, it gets into EVERYTHING.
Its got none of the advantages of a liquid and none of the qood qualities of a solid.
when it gets wet its a grinding paste, its electrically conductive when its wet it builds static charge when its dry,
it gets inside and on the back glass of gauges, it gets in carpet

Good chance has also done a lot of miles on dirt roads.
Whether they were rough dirt roads or relatively smooth, you won't know until you inspect the vehicle.
i would still take a vehicle with red dust rather than one full of sand that has done a lot of beach miles.
it never comes off.
never get it clean

It gets in every where, it may be the next carcinogenic, we have black coal dust, we have brown coal dust, and we have red dust.
