I know you probably have advanced your ignition to`12BTDC to run on gas but now there is hardly a reason to run on gas.

Mine is a high compression 4.6. I haven't tried it on low octane. I always ran the 4.0 on high octane - it was high compression. High octane isnt as crazy as it sounds as it gives more kilometers from the same amount but also its great for keeping the fuel system in good nick. I had my injectors inspected recently - at 300k the guy reckoned no cleaning required on the pattern...they were the cleanest he had seen. Asked me if i had always run premium...yep. premium was also recommended by LR for the D2. For good reason because even though it runs
knock sensors i reckon at times i could detect pinging in the 4.0 when i ran a tank of normal i lead here and there (provably 3 times in 14 years)
I also think that overall these engines benefit from the cleaner fuel that comes with 98 RON blend.

It's 50cents a litre even in Ballarat. 69cent/L is crazyness when ULP is around $1.00 a litre.Quote:

One of these pipes carries oil, the other is signposted LPG (in all its variants).

LPG seems to be much dearer north of the Victorian border. I took my Dedicated gas RTV ute down to Melbourne last October and was pleasantly surprised to see gas at the ~49c mark. it was 56c in Albury and 75c in Holbrook. Yass and Canberra seem to have been around the 62-66c mark for the last 12 months or so.

but the small heater line (to the converter)that worked before I left, failed to heat in Vic. car suddenly no work on Gateway Bridge!! Was instructed to loop a full heater size line across the engine to the converter and put T's into both heater hoses.
this worked fine, but at a possible leak cost of two cut hoses and 6 extra joiners.
If I was doing it again I'd cut once and run ALL the heater water through the converter.
My mind still cant work out how the loop water moves at all or joins into the heater water??
For LPG to sell against petrol it should be half the price of petrol.
It is a fact it must be that way or its not viable.
In so areas this is not so and some one is getting too greedy.
As for safety I personally will take LPG over petrol any day.
Playing with forklifts or the last 30 years has shown me many things.
Forklifts are suppose to have the LPG system inspected every 10 years...........alot of the time it doesn't happen and a LPG system will go for 30 years with out inspection and if a safety device stops the machine from working, will often be by passed or go missing by non qualified people.
The boss will change the beemer every 4 years and refuses to spend anything on the forklift until it stops and therefore the factory stops and then gets the cheapest repair possible.

Gas bottles on forklifts are removable sitting on the counterweight on a bracket which relys on the driver to clip it in correctly while smoking his cig..
These bottles are often out of date ( especially if they are owned by the customer)
Often the bottle is not clipped in correctly or the gas bottle holder has been damaged or the bottle is over hanging the forklift and gets clipped by awall or another forklift and the bottle goes flying across the concrete floor snapping off the brass gas fitting on the bottle or ripping a poor conditioned hose .
Never have I seen a serious LPG fire.
Many forklifts go up in flames in factory fires due to other reasons.
Then there is the fact a forklift bottle has a top and bottom side and forklift operators seldom rotate the bottles the correct way so if there is a fire the bottle will vent pointing upwards for safety.
LPG on forklifts is not normally a problem safety wise even though LPG on forklifts is treated poorly by everyone.
Forklifts do not have a safety lock off solenoid on the gas bottle.
All automotive gas bottles including forklift bottles have a excess flow valve.........if the gas line or fittings on the bottle get damaged, the gas stops flowing to almost nothing.
House hold bottles and barbeque gas don't not have this and with primitive relief valves cause problems in house and caravan fires.
