Grant Hackett. I feel sorry for him.

Well, it's the "delusional", "clueless", one here again, and yes, I do feel sorry for Hackett.
He's had his share of issues during the last few years, highly publicized too, which exposure none of us have to bear, a punishment in itself,...and for sure, He's done some BAD stuff.
Anyway, here He is at 35, trying to put all that behind him, and trying to make the Olympics,...and he fails, which would be a massive downer. Then He goes to a Corporate Function, & has too much to drink before getting on a plane. And then, someone reclines their seat, which with my VERY limited flying experience, I've experienced, and yes, whilst reclining is allowed, I've found that being in the seat behind, can be annoying, and so I guess, with a few drinks in him, one thing leads to another,.......?
I'm NOT EXCUSING him, just saying that with the ups & downs & big recent disappointment, alcohol can seem to be a bit of a release, which, at the time, it can appear to be,....but invariably as in Hackett's case, with disasterous consequences.
I hope that He can eventually get his life in order.

We all hope he gets his life back together but an examination of the facts would show, he had a promising career in the media set up for the upcoming Olympics, a cursory look at the times his fellow competitors were swimming would have told a 35 year old that he was not competitive therefore why was he even trying out if not for the media attention he seems to crave.

If he is let off with a slap on the wrist, what does that say to every other loudmouth drunk on a flight - "It was OK for Hackett to do it"

He only has one person to blame for his current predicament - Grant Hackett

Chenz, I agree,......Definitely not saying any "exceptions" should be made, I just hope, that this person, who has made us all proud, on many occasions, can find himself again.

No excuses. If you can't handle it, then don't drink it. Simple.

As a very regular flyer i think he has done what everyone thinks. Reclining your seat in a modern aircraft is declaring war. I'm not that tall and when people do it to me it completely pins me down. Its horrific.

Lucky I'm such a passive person

I agree with you. I've only ever been in economy, & I would NEVER recline a seat myself, because of the restriction it places on the person behind.
It's allowed, so ya can do it, but it can be an issue, which I reckon airlines should look at.

He was never ever going to qualify for the Olympic Team. He was only ever trying to sanitise his public image (rehabilitating himself perhaps) as a way back into the media. And he blew it.

I've dealt with an awful lot of drunks in my time and any that are so smashed they would need a wheel chair get sent straight to hospital.

Only four more years and he can have another crack as a 39 year old.

Still, if you are wanted in the media they will have you back. Just look at Wayne Carey.

    What did he actually do????
Reports on ABC wireless made it pretty clear he touched up another male passenger. It sounded more like a sexual thing than a loud mouth passenger or bit of biffo.

What, don't tell me he released the turkey!

I definitely recline. The entire flight shouldn't be sitting uncomfortably bolt upright for the entire flight to please somebody else. Everybody should be made to recline and enjoy.
    Cheers
