So far, the Nanny State has only made Laws to protect Idiots from themselves or us from Idiots. It would be sad if there were to make Laws to protect us all from what some find offensive. Then It coulee said to be the Grumpy Old Grandad State.
Until I saw this thread, I thought I hadn't seen one of the vehicles in question, so I got them up on Google Images. I had seen them but I didn't take much notice except to dismiss it as juvenile cheek.
Some of the graphics on some of them could definitely be described as pornographic and would be illegal. Those Images should be removed.
Some of the slogans are offensive and I would have to think quickly if one of my kids was to ask me to explain them.
Justine is right to take a stand against them if he wants to make his feelings and opinions felt. The Caravan Park man is right to take a stand against them if he feels they upset him and his customers.
The van company is within its rights to promote its self in this way but I feel they are taking it too far and are being bloody minded and self righteous in shoving there ideas into the faces of the public at large. To do it for commercial purposes is just plain bloody crass.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

Is it a nanny state for unduly restricting personal choice when mandating the proper restraints for children in vehicles?

What about the childrens' nanny who drives the kids around, unrestrained in the vehicle?

    These nannys are confusing me.

    Let's not mention child immunisation....

Farting in company is generally considered a little offensive. Some groups would tolerate it and laugh, others might not want to associate any more with the offender. The outcome depends on the level of stink, the frequency, and the nature of the group. Most people can distinguish when a fart is acceptable (and will get a laugh) and when it isn't.
Many behaviours fall into this category- picking your nose, swearing, reaching down your pants to adjust your balls, and so on.

The problem with the Wicked vans is that there is no discrimination- everyone they drive in front of gets to see what is written. The hirer/driver has little control of this.

If the driver/hirer doesn't care, then that says something about his/her character, and attitude to others. The caravan park owner has a choice of banning such vehicles and thereby exercising freedom to discriminate as to the circumstances in which such statements are acceptable- but this will cost some trade. Likewise, the hirer/driver has a choice as to whether to hire such a vehicle- but this may cost access to some campsites.

I don't think this is the place for legislation- but it is the place for a community movement to advocate for people not to associate with such tourists. If enough park owners remove access- then the van company will modify their slogans.

Personally, I found some of their early efforts quite funny, but lately they have just become crude and offensive. I certainly wouldn't hire one.

OTOH, it is just possible that there are some parents who will seek out his park. It may be that they would prefer not to have to explain to their young children what some of the more obscene slogans mean.

That might mean no net loss of trade.

Most of these vans are free camping, legally and otherwise.
