    and

    (2) why the poster has been given his own space on aulro.com to do it on/in.

Perhaps we could think of it as aulro's community service, sort of like visiting the old folks in the nursing home, but instead we cater to old codgers with an axe to grind

    - so if we can find an axe to grind I assume we'll get our individual pinniped-style clubs ?

The poster was not "given" is own space. it was created to allow ALL members to post in. The fact that Bob has the majority of entries does not give him any control over it. The section is bound by the same rules and guidelines as the rest of the place.

I believe there is the capability to " ignore " posters you don't wish to converse with. Those who have a problem with the site should do just that. I do not think I " own " the walrus thread, I was invited to start the thing , with the idea members could have a conversation , if they wished. I also post in other areas of the forum, when I remember the rules. There are certain members who seem to want to make things personal, always go for the lowest common denominator, the walrus is for those who want to have even handed discussion.
As always, I will bow to the majority, with no hard feelings. But it would be a pity if negative thinkers had their way
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Perhaps if a thread in the Walrus club receives input from 5 or more different people it is worthy of wider coverage and gets moved.

In this way we avoid having 2 areas where chat of a general nature is taking place.
That sounds like a lot of effort for the mods, which may be better spent elsewhere.

I vote leave it as is. I probably read about 10% of posts, but its pretty easy to flick past them. I don't think it's worth the mods effort to change it.

    Cheers

There are plenty of other sub forums here that get less traffic - should we ditch those too? The links posted aren't generally things I find on my own and find some of them interesting. I think it works well as it is IMO.

I think its been a very posative addition to AULRO.Bob has taken ownership of it.Its given him an outlet to share his threads, and has stopped all the complaints about Bob filling General chat with these posts.
Also,as people dont have to visit the Walrus Club if they dont want too,we dont have members stirring Bob up in general chat anymore simply because they thought it was entertaining.
Bob is a much easier member for us moderators to get along with these days, and must be so for the members as we simply dont get any complaints about Bob any more.

I visit the Walrus Club and very occasionally post a Thread there. Bob does manage to dig up items that are not generally known and for that reason I find some of his posts interesting. As mentioned by a previous poster, Bob does not "own" the Walrus Thread, we all can contribute if we wish, Bob happens to be the major contributor.

I kind of like it, in that, on the occasion I have time to just see whats happening or interesting to others, I can go to the sub forum and browse through all manor of snippets that I may not have actually thought to look for or would interest me normally. Yet they are often of interest.
These were once posted in the general section which I didnt think was good fit. so am happy to keep the Walrus going
Ive been made aware of a number of events eg astronomical that I would have missed.

But that's just my browsing habits and AULRO is a significant part of that.

i thought the walrus club was created for bobs use
i feel that most of whats posted in the walrus club is click bait. notice i said most and not all.

it would be nice if i could unsubscribe from the walrus club without blocking all of bobs posts from others thread.

I like it. I spend hours in there reading the stuff that Bob puts up and occasionally put my 2 Bobs worth in. For those who don't like it's out of the way and doesn't clog up the rest of General Chat.
I vote to keep it please.
    Cheers, Billy.
