I use the Tallon wax blocks, find them the best as they don't disappear in the rain. They have a hole in the middle, I wrap a bit of wire around then I attach it to the side of my aviary so I can monitor if there is any mice hanging around.

You need a rat trap which is designed as a cage with a door which closes when the rat goes in after the bait at the other end of the trap. We have one and it has caught a mouse and a rat in the last week.

+1 on the Talon blocks , they have worked well for me for many years .

I use Tomcat blocks and I buy it in the 1.8kg plastic tubs from the local rural centre (eg CRT).

Throw that stuff everywhere, the mice eat it like there is not tomorrow and for many of them that may very well be the case.

All through the roof, all through the house.

Keep in mind that with baits the mice/rats will grab and move them around, so you need to make sure that where ever they are, that they cant be moved into a place that your pets can then get to them.

Ie, put them all through the roof, in cupboards, well behind furniture etc. I had Roxy my dog eat them off the back of ute and she sniffs others out. Baits are designed to be attractive to animals so they eat them, pets are no different so they will attempt to pull baits out from where ever they are. I draw a map of every bait that I lay (except in the roof) and I check every bait daily to make sure it is accounted for and can be replaced if needed. If you lay them on paper, you can also see if they are still being eaten or if the mice have gone.

The baits take some time to work, a couple of days but they will knock them all out as long as you keep the baits up to them.
