So if the census is Tuesday night, when are we supposed to receive the letter with the unique ID, that then allows me to ring and ask for a paper form ?? Fat chance they'd get me the form by Tuesday.

    ????

So if you were not home on say census night and with your secret lover, you would have to be counted on your secret lovers form.

this will be vital stats that the Govt needs

Also Notice you can now you choose your sex, male /female or other.
Flying out of the country on Saturday. Hope they can get the form to the people I'm staying with.

If you are not in AU on census night, you don't get counted. Visitors from overseas are!
You have until latish September to complete/supply the info.
One just ex uni student I know commented on how much use she found of the data for her research project/s, quite apart from the general use for forecasting/planning for our gods country.
I liked the comment that for most people, there is far more info available on facebook etc than ABS/ATO could ever use.
Also that 60% of Australians have already agreed to have their data kept for 99 years, and that name and address have been collected for some time by ABS, albeit not kept for quite so long.
Nothing like the uninformed commenting for their moment of glory (not talking about our comments here), but some pollies need to get a life.
And I'm not allowed to tell you if I'm an area supervisor again working on the collection

Interesting comment on the local news this morning - Lightning Ridge (with many non-conformist opal miners) has a population according to ABS census results of about 2,000. The local council is certain it is around 6,000, presumably from propeerty records etc.

All the towns facilities and funding from state and local government are based on ABS figures, but the council says its campaign to get people to comply with the census has fallen on deaf ears.

I have to be careful as I have a confidentiality agreement, but you can be pretty confident that someone will visit you with a form although probably after the 9th if you don't submit via the net. You can get a code by calling the hotline to submit by Net.

There are 38 thousand people employed to do this, I read in a newspaper.

It is a pity that ABS have not communicated the process fully although it's pretty complex.

    Regards Philip A

There is an article in News.com.au this morning which may help.

A dedicated telephone service has been established to assist with inquiries on 1300 214 531. There’s also information on how to request a paper form if required by calling a dedicated 24-hour paper form request line on 1300 820 275. The ABS has made additional call centre resources available to deal with an increasing number of inquiries ahead of census night.

So far I have received nothing, but there are a few more days to go. It is unlikely that anyone without good local knowledge and a four wheel drive can get here until at least Monday, and that assumes it does not rain any more. I am unlikely to attempt to get any more mail until some time next week. And my mailing address is not even close to the premises.

I made an on-line query about this last week, but have had no response.

Last census I had no contact until I rang them after the census night - eventually I got a form delivered! There must be a lot of people in a similar situation to mine. Especially with a number of the western shires closing all unsealed roads on Tuesday!

If you have a letter box on the road and a locked gate they may leave the forms in a plastic bag in the letter box.
If you don't get a form call after the 9th and someone will come with one.

The country people are issued with PLBs and sat phones !

I don't have a mailbox, as there is no mail delivery on my road, and the gate is not locked. it is only 1.6km from the gate to the house. I pick my mail up from the village 6km (and seven gates, a creek and a river) away.

I can attest that the person in our household who may or may not be "censusing" has crossed many swollen creeks and rivers , dirt n gravel roads ,met much livestock and the vehicle is filthy !

On another note , i used to be "funny" about the amount of info asked for . However i have friends who work in the ato and friends who are in law enforcement .

More info is freely shared via social media , ebay , mobile phones and down the pub . If the info is desired it can be accessed easier and faster by other means .
