About half an hour ago, I took eight minutes, but that was because I went back a few pages to check that I had answered an earlier question correctly.

As someone who had always planned to fill in the census online a few days after the rush had subsided and having seen the actual questions, I find it hard to imagine why so many people are getting in such a lather about the whole thing.

Except that probably three quarters of those trying to do it on line in the eastern states time zone all tried to log on after finishing dinner on Tuesday evening (exactly as the ads told them to).

Several million trying to log on in a half hour period is not going to work at a capacity of a million an hour. To the operators, it looked like an attack, and when the IBM systems started sending an error log to head office, the operators panicked and thought it was a hacker, and shut everything down.

The Census questions didn't tell me that. Nothing excluded foreign visitors. The questions included choices for being born overseas in various countries.

The questions might be similar, but the change is your answers are no longer anonymous, and they're going to link them to your answers to future censuses, so over time the government will know a lot about you personally. Does Big Brother watching you make you feel uncomfortable? Is your privacy still important to you?

If you put your name and address into Google you can see a whole lot of stuff about you that you did not put there. Just because the government does it everybody cries conspiracy theory

Just posted mine back & asked the post office for a receipt which they can't supply. So I coughed up $3.80 & sent it registered mail. Not that I don't trust them but I don't!

Nope, nothing on Google about me at all, or my address but yep, my details are everywhere not just government servers. Not that I'm that worried though.

By the time they can link any useful information out of information I provide every 5 years, I'll be dead...
