To be more precise the wording suggests that the visitors should complete pink forms for people staying temporarily.

If you are visiting Australia on census night, you are required to participate. Your accommodation provider will give you a form or details of how to complete the census online.
The pink forms for people not at their home residence were distributed by the accommodation provider ie the office of a caravan park or reception of a block of units.
It's not very clear but all people not at their home should fill the pink forms unless of course they did the forms earlier at their home.

The computer forms that only went to individual households did not specify this.

As I indicated earlier I sent an email stating I had not received any correspondence from them. I had no number. I have just received a reply thanking me for submitting my return. The phone is now running hot with some worried people on the other end..I DEMAND MY SAY!!!

Yes but that doesn't cover private visitors. There are also privacy concerns about providing the names of children, particularly when those children have poor English and neither they nor their parents who are foreign citizens have given permission for their details to be given to the Australian government. There are duty of care issues. Bottom line is no way I was going to give the names of those kids to the census.

Of all the answers asked for on the census, which particular one do some people think needs to be kept from your next door neighbour, the Australian Government, ASIO, the Italian Mafia, the CIA, Mossad, the KGB, the Chinese Government or ISIS?

I didn't have any on my form that caused me concern.

I'm terrified of all of them especially the next door neighbours dog all 2.5 Kilos of it. She has a savage lick.

I got a nice "thank you" from the Census people today.
    Cheers, Billy.

I got an email from them asking for more information so that they could respond to the five contacts I made with them (four using their web inquiry form, one by phone) so that they could supply me with either a login letter or a form.

I filled out the details (again) and clicked on 'Send' - Error 404!

    2016 Census results released

Due to the relatively small amount of people who managed to complete the Census, the results have become available surprisingly quickly.

They reveal an intriguing snapshot of what Australia is like in 2016. Here are just a few of the findings:

There are seven people living in Australia; down from a peak of 24 million

Australia now has no children, meaning massive saving to the education budget

All seven Australians listed their status as married, meaning means at least one person is breaking the law and has a lot of explaining to do

    No one has internet access

Everyone now drives to work, justifying years of underspending on public transport

The only languages spoken in Australia are English and Swahili

No one lives in Tasmania or Adelaide anymore, consistent with predicted trends

No one needs ongoing care, justifying years of health cuts

The majority of Australians are employed in a bakery in Parramatta

Alarmingly, no one works in defence or law enforcement anymore

There has been a significant plunge in religious belief with only one in seven Australians identifying as "Jedi"

No Australians work in the public service anymore, which makes sense given the way the Census went
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Having quoted the top paragraph earlier the problem deepens. I rang again and was asked for my details including address. The lady checked on their computer and then told me that my address does not exist and is not on their computer. I then asked her what happened to my records from the last two census (or should it be censii). The address where we now live has had different residents living here for over 100 years. I GIVE UP. Let them chase me, what else can I do?
