Hypertune has now been sold twice since Colin however the main mechanic still there, Gareth, has been there since Colin owned it. A few of the guys I work with get there Rovers looked after there and are happy with them still.
Hey there guys I'm on my way heading up the cape and have noticed a large leak from the transfer case of my TDI 110. It's leaking about a drop a minute when stopped so it's a fair leak coming from the input area. I'm really not that keen on trying drop the case on the side of the road (or on my chest). So thought I would get a quote for a shop to do it.
Have read a older recommendation (2010) for Colin at hypertube in cairns and not sure if he is still there as when I rang there were two guys that were talking but both had different names. Also tried another recommendation from the 2010 thread tim Vinson from Townsville but the number is disconnected. So thought I would check if any updates in the area as quoted 4 hours which is reasonable (probably take me 8) for just under $500 in labour and that is assuming that it's just the input seal....
So if I'm going to bite the bullet and fork out that sort of $ just wanted to check that these guys are good as it could get $$$$ quickly if things look bit pair shaped when the transfer comes out if they are newies that have bought the business. I know I'm being a bit tight but have quit work to have a look around the top end for 12 months working here and there so the $ situation is a little tight (who am I kidding I'm tight at the best of times). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We were theorising if used longer m10 guide bolts if the transfer could be slid back far enough (in situ) to replace the seal??

I would also recommend Landy Center in Cairns.
The bloke (Rene) there does my D3 & is excellent.
I have Series & Defenders at his work shop, so I guess & does those as well as proper cars.
Rene is fully LR trained & did his original apprenticeship with the LR factory in the UK. He has a weird accent?
There is also a place called Cairns Land Rover but I have not used them.
Jonesfam
PS I have no affiliation, just like his work after becoming very peeved with the Cairns dealer.
Ok Ill try call them before 5pm then, bugger its Friday.
I know this is a how long is ball of string kind of question but what are the odds of it getting a progressively worsening leak, Ie top up every day and hope for the best? I think Im clutching at straws now even the wording of that seems to have the answer in the question...
Also if Im paying $500 to drop the transfer should I get anything else done to it like intermediate orings?
It's not as bad as you think,it's leaking bad because the oils hot,if you can't get it fixed just take a liter of oil with you and top it up. Pat

Another vote for Gareth at Hypertune, top bloke who knows his Landies.
Is Colin still in the area?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
