Oh yeah .. I have lots of safe places. It's like buying a bag of 100 'O'rings .... because you need one ... You store the other 99 in a "safe place" ... 2 years later you need to same 'O'ring again... and remember .... bugger me, I have 99 of them  .... So you search and search and search ... and turn the bloody place upside down.... Finally you think "bugger it" ... Order in another bag of 100......... So have 99 spare. This time we'll put it in a better safe place.... So without fail will go and place the bag of 99 'O'rings on top of the last bag of 99 'O'rings .... Hey .... I need 198 spares right

You have seen the bush out of the Traction Avants gearbox I had last night have you ?? I put it in a safe place. I have new bushes to install in there place, but saved one of the old ones to turn down and use as a spacer to ensure the bushes won't move in use and cover the oil feeder hole...... I should be able to find a "safe spot" from only yesterday right

I ripped the house upside down looking for a roll of painters masking tape that I was sure I had. The tape was worth $35 a roll for the wide stuff, and I only needed a bit of it so couldn't justify buying a whole new roll.
    I searched everywhere. Thrice.
A few weeks later I gave up and bought a new roll. A few days after, I ended up finding it at work in a drawer, and haven't the foggiest how it ended up there. I now have 2 lifetime supplies of 3M painters masking tape. FML.

They will be near my paint scraper, looked at the scraper months ago but couldnt find the blades for it.
Months later when i needed to use it i found the blades but not the scraper, so i bought a crappy plastic one from the newsagent.
So now i have 20 spare blades and no scraper - the plastic one only just lasted.

    The kitchens "safe" Mick,,,

I needed my big plate square a few weeks ago, searched the shed upside down even,, couldn't find it anywhere. Borrowed one to do the job. The next week I'm cold, so I grabbed my big jacket off the back seat of the car,,, ohhh lookie lookie, one big plate square,, drill, grinder etc. Had it all there to do another job onsite for a mate,,,,,

It'll be "on the side" Mick. That's my wife's stock answer when I'm hunting for anything. "Have you seen my keys dear?"...."they're on the side".

As far as I can gather "the side" can be any horizontal surface, covered or otherwise, inside or outside the house.

I'm not being much help, am I?
