Wouldn't surprize me.

I have had to put a locking fuel cap on it because it would go through a tank of fuel every couple of days, since I locked the fuel it last a week or more.

I tried keeping tabs on the Odo meter but that proved unworkable because no one else would/could do it while I have time off.

I send staff out to go to the dump, collect staff for work (only way to get them here) other bits & pieces.

BTW a few years ago I had an electric push bike so I could go & check on the ute but I don't get time to go & follow them about & the bike was to slow.

I dunno, are your employees good people that look after you ? If "yes", let them use the ute... Just ask them to fuel it up themselves if they use it.

Failing that, if you want them to feel untrusted .. put a logbook in it and get them to fill in the milage and trip details each time it's used.

I used to work at a petrol stations, I've had people fill 20litre fuel drums and there work car .... using the company fuel card... And have a 2nd car follow the work car in and fill both ... onto the work card. Once I had someone come in and abuse the crap out of me as they hung up the pump between the two cars .... He had to pay for his own car out of his pocket as he couldn't put the 2nd cost onto the card without questions being asked.

It comes down to trust I guess. Do you actually mind if they use the ute ? If your trying to track fuel usage through a fuel card though, I think ute milage will not be your issue, it will be fuel not going into the ute that you are paying for that is the issue.

Good employees don't **** their employer over.

We laughed when the GPS trackers were put into our vehicles because the team I worked with knew none of us did anything untoward.

The maintenance team didn't fare so well... [emoji6]

I have a feeling his employees feel that the "family" obligations come way ahead of those of the employer.

Yes, the Culture here is slightly different to the norm.

I appreciate this (after all, I've lived here about 20 years) but, this has come up at staff meetings & during staff training that the issue is - I have to be asked if the ute can be used for these purposes! Normally I would OK it anyway but I should still be asked.
The staff don't get that I'm responsible for them, the ute & anybody else in it, so I have to have control of it.

Today I took the key from the Key Box, it now lives in my pocket so at least I know when the ute is going somewhere even if I am not sure where or with whom.
