Speed Camera - I'm hoping I dodged a bullet..

I had a senior moment Monday last week & gave the Landie a "blip" to fill a gap in peak traffic & get out of a lane that was clammed up ahead ( benefit of seeing over the other cars) and got flashed crossing Clayton Road in the 40k school zone. I reckon I was nearer 50 than 40 as I was going from 2nd to 3rd. No excuses I know, but it's so easy to be concentrating on other things.
It's a relatively new camera on a crossing I must have gone thru 1000 times before. Been nervously checking the mail each day & cursing what I could have spent the $190.00 on.
I have a mate who worked in the area of traffic camera's & he says that a week is the top you would expect to wait.

So I checked this site.

So I'm hoping that the below I found on the site is still current & my salvation.

Pre-commissioned camera locations

When a fixed camera is installed, it undergoes thorough testing before it starts to issue fines. During this period, the camera is said to be ?pre-commissioned?. Pre-commissioned cameras will operate as normal, and may flash if a car speeds through an intersection or runs a red light, but no fines will be issued.

The following locations currently have pre-commissioned cameras:
Intersection of Springvale Road and Canterbury Road, Forest Hill
Intersection of Narre Warren North Road and Ernst Wanke Road, Narre Warren
Intersection of Maroondah Highway and Ringwood Bypass, Ringwood
Intersection of Maroondah Highway and Mount Dandenong Road, Ringwood
Intersection of Plenty Road and Dunne Street, Kingsbury
Intersection of Plenty Road and Kingsbury Drive, Bundoora
Intersection of Canterbury Road and Mitcham Road, Vermont
Intersection of McIvor Road and Reservoir Road, Strathdale
Intersection of Brighton Road and Glen Eira Road, Ripponlea (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of North Road and Clayton Road, Oakleigh East (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of Nepean Highway and Centre Road, Brighton East (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of Barkers Road and Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of Murray Road and Elizabeth Street, Coburg (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of Pascoe Vale Road and Peck Avenue, Strathmore (upgrade from wet-film camera)
Intersection of Thompson Road and Separation Street, Bell Park (upgrade from wet-film camera)

Thought I would post this up as my daughter went thru the same intersection late at night 2 nights later @65KPH ( 5K under) & got flashed by the camera too. So if you are in the same boat with other intersections, take heart...
Another thing I found is that they changed the rule about crossing an unbroken line at traffic lights in 2009. Prior to that you could ( in Vic) but now it's $135 fine..

Think you have a point Mick.

I've had 3 seniors moments in the last couple of years..... all of my donations to general revenue have been cases of just on the limit that it used to be before someone started changing them all.

42Km/hr through a set of lights in the city

71km/hr through a set of lights that used to be 70 limit is now 60 at 4am.

63km/hr Maroondah highway Lilydale that used to be 60 limit is now 50 at 2am.

I'm obviously an extremely dangerous driver, having never had a major accident in 36 years......

Hope they spend the extra revenue wisely......

But I obviously should plead guilty to being a slow learner

.....Maybe if I took the SDV6 out of the D4 and put in a 4BD1 none turbo..... I wonder if that would help

I always have a chuckle when I remember the 'good driver discount' I got on a licence renewal a few years back.
I hadn't had a speeding ticket, but had a few warnings and a pretty serious defect notice which resulted in temporary suspension of the vehicles registration (in another car). But I'm a good driver nontheless. My partner however, got a $80 fine for talking on her mobile while driving = Bad driver. No discount for her

I have a after market Hillspeed digital speedo. A small unit that sits on the dash. It can be set to a given speed so a warning is given of both flashing lights and a beep when the set speed is passed. So I know regardless of Tyre diameter, continental drift etc what speed I am doing. Got done at the Wellington road bridge supposedly doing 113 kph. You only get one appeal either written or court. I chose the written. Still had to pay. You just have to Google Wellington road bridge speed camera and soon realise it is a farce.
What I also have noticed is the placement of intersection cameras. Not for the supposed safety but to increase the chance of infringement. One good example it the one in Lynbrook. There is a set of lights just below the crest of a hill. Camera set up to catch people coming over the crest, but no camera for those approaching the lights on the rise to the lights. There is also no warning signs before the camera.

In Sydney a few years ago they turned about 30 or so speed cameras off...

A few months later they started turning them all back on, very quietly so no one noticed or said anything.

Today, I'd say most, if not all are back on with the exception being if the camera was removed.

I don't think turning them back on again was for safety reasons.......

Camera going flash, or marked car monitoring traffic. I know which one truly improves safety, and which is just a cash cow.

I think it's wishful thinking that giving your defender a blip would increase it's speed.....it probably only made more noise.........
