I'm now an employed driver, I was an OD for twenty odd years, working like a drover's dog but not making wages even; had some good times though.

Were you with Esanda? In the eighties they were the biggest truck yard in the country. You could spec what ever you wanted right down to the colour.

Not all truckies do the right thing either. Tonight whilst driving my s3 back towards the city, in Adelaide, a truck was in the centre lane while I was in the left lane, headlights ablaze on low beam, whilst almost level with his dual rear axles, heavy rigid truck, the innatentive driver decided to change into my lane using his indicators which he turned on after turning his steering wheel. I gave him all my high beam and lightbars and he swerved violently back to his lane. I reckon I could have touched his truck without stretching out my hand, luckily I was keeping to the left of the lane. About 2km further down the road, a b double did the same thing, but I was just behind the rear of his truck so I swerved away from him and braked as I changed out into the right lane to avoid him. He had hit the jake brake as he turned into the lane as he indicated, so would have run up his bum if I hadn't avoided him. Wish i'd had a dash cam. Gave him a serve on ch40, without swearing, unlike him. Im so glad I used to drive race cars and ride bikes, I still have great reflexes.
Anyway rant over. No damage and im still alive.

    Cheers Rod

Again not just p platers. I was behind a container truck yesterday. No indicators used to exit gateway hwy to my Gravatt rd. At the lights he jumped the red to turn right , narrowly missing the back of another truck leaving the intersection. Then straight through the next red almost taking out all the vehicles turning right from the northbound side. Seemed like very deliberate actions to me.

Do you ever wonder why? Mud carters are usually in the same boat, paid a pittance per load.

Good pick up,...yes, I was with Esanda, and yes, I had plenty to do with owner drivers,....like I said, the hardest working people I've ever met, sometimes hardly see their families, sometimes at the mercy of unscrupulous freight agents, not getting paid on time,...30 days sometimes out to 90/120 days, & sometimes not getting paid at all.(still expected to pay their fuel bill though?).
Some think that a truckie's life is sitting in a W model Kenworth, driving into the sunset, with slim dusty on the radio,...imho, nothing could be further from the truth.

Anybody see the Truckie show last week(unsure the name).
They had the HHA owner on it.$70 grand spent on an old junk Mack,it looked awesome when he got it back.
He was short of trucks so he got a gold Mack out of his show truck collection to do a job.
I was telling Deb we had a HHA bloke deliver a grader for a demo, the bloke "Grumpy" spent the whole time polishing his truck whilst we had the demo, all she couls ask was WHY
The HHA boss stops the gold Mack for a safety check and starts polishing the wheels Must be in the job description!!!!!
Must admit,he had some loverly trucks in his shed, plus when you see a HHA truck on the road they are immaculate.

You won't see them any more, HHA spectacularly went belly up. It's been said he supplied any amount of polish but a cartridge of grease was impossible to get.

Had a spectacular one coming home from town on Tuesday. On the road home there is a level crossing with just a stop sign, and double lines for fifty metres each way from the crossing. It is immediately after a right turn, so it is impossible to easily see trains coming from the right. And it is one frequently targeted by police for drivers failing to stop; they hide behind some nearby trees.

As I came to a stop, the car behind me, far from stopping, pulled out and accelerated across the level crossing, on the wrong side of the double line, and with tyres smoking. And no, there were no P plates!

Still could be a P-plater who couldn't be bothered to put their P-plates on the car. Pity the police were not in their usual hiding place.
