VERY CLOSE CALL ,TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

I was making a right hand turn this arvo with a green arrow at an intersection, although I always look before proceeding through any intersection even if i have the right of way. Any way no one to be seen, as i was half way through the intersection on the Green light, a Red P Plate driver came roaring through on my left through the red light he had, that light was red for a while too. I slammed on the anchors and we avoided colliding. He just kept going like nothing had happened. He was totally oblivious to what he had just done. At the speed he was traveling ( 80kph) it would not have been nice.

That sounds way too close for comfort. Glad you were able to avoid it.

A friend of mine in Melbourne when ever travelling in the city at night he always waits a couple of extra seconds at a green light before moving on, hoping to avoid the red light runners.

I was once a witness to a minor accident involving a P plater. What annoyed me the most was the P plater had no remorse and did not give a damn as to what had just occurred.

Not just the p platers to blame. I see this daily. As said give the intersection a second or two and take a second look , then proceed. I don't give a rat s if the car behind is blasting the horn either. They will soon overtake in a usually crazy manner.

P platers all seem to be on a mission to see who can lose their licence quickest.
I had one overtake my B-double, using a left-hand turn lane, yesterday. He also tried to pass the quad-dog in front of me, but ran out of road. Further up the narrow, winding and hilly road he made a desperate and dangerous attempt to pass the truck and trailer. As he crossed to the wrong side of the road, traffic approached and he accelerated hard. Halfway past he had second thoughts and braked, changed his mind and throttled on again. A collision was avoided by myself, the truck in front of me and the oncoming traffic braking heavily, allowing the idiot back onto the correct side of the road. Both the truck in front and myself were travelling at the speed limit.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I'm seeing around Melbourne an attitude that if there is no red light camera then it's OK to go thru after the red.
Chances are pretty good for getting away with it.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving my bus at Charlestown in front of Charlestown Square. I was stopped at a red light at the bottom of the hill ready to turn right when I got the green light. Checking for traffic before I moved off, all was clear and I was half way across the intersection when this idiot came screaming through the red light in the other direction.

I braced myself for this idiot to hit my bus near the right rear wheel when they realised they had a big yellow bus right across their path and they hit the anchors and stopped just in time........phew.

I was looking out the right window and the look on this persons face was one of extreme shock. I think some people see a red light as only a suggestion not a definite indication they should not proceed further.

A common occurrence for me, Ian. Extremely dangerous practice, particularly if there is a bus stop on the other side of the intersection.

Driving behaviour hasn't improved in the well over 40 years I've been in God's own country. In fact I think the attitude to others on the road is even worse.
Cars have improved enormous cutting the death rate dramatically with better brakes and better protection for occupants.
I always have a chuckle at behaviour at roundabouts in WA. So many drivers will stop and take a good look all round before proceeding but will accelerate at traffic lights to beat them. Very odd considering you're more likely to die when T boned.
Then there's the others who can't get in the correct lane and give very confusing indications, that is if they bother giving any at all.
They're not alone in that though as I see many of WAs finest not able to work out how to signal properly.

No traffic lights here or rules come to think of it , I see I Port Moresby the lights now have a second count down on the green. I remember that years ago at Kew Junction, but that was like a clock. Not sure a good idea or not.

I wonder how many red light runners are engrossed in their mobile
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

    Hello All,

Yes red lights and those funny double unbroken lines. Don't they signify that it marks out of bounds for us plebs. Also the that the two solid lines delineate the territory of the chosen few; a place where they apparently have special approval to overtake someone else.

It is something I hardly ever used to see. Now each time I travel on a highway it seems a daily occurrence - rules only apply to mugs apparently.

God I have turned into an old fart

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
