I think we have wasted a lot of money perhaps?
Telstra trials 5G mobile network, the next 'quantum leap' in technology

My view is 90% of us will use 5g or better making a ROI on NBN questionable at least. It will depend on bandwidth. 2020 for 5g or god know when NBN will get to my NBN black hole. (Doncaster Vic)

Often forced to use 4G when ADSL fails to get past a dial up speed frequently here already. 4G is often much faster than ADSL already.

That result is probably for one bloke and his dog standing directly underneath a transmitter. Add another 10 million people all wanting to do the same thing at the same time and then see what the speeds are. just a general observation of course , I have no idea what all this stuff is about:

Wrong! Because you can bank on the fact that not all of those 1000 customers will be using the full bandwidth every millisecond, you only need a fraction of that. The fraction is called the contention ratio, and might typically be between 10 and 20. And this is the major difference between retailers, other than the service they give.

Continuous streaming services such as Youtube, netflix etc represent a change in consumer behaviour that has been quite rapid, and has almost certainly caught a lot of RSPs by surprise.

Yep, fibre is the only way it can work. FTN was already outdated when it was announced. Planners usually underestimate consumer demand. Once people taste a better service they usually want it.

It caught me by surprise too, i never check my internet usage seeing as we have 200gb that's unlimited for my usual usage. Then the other week i thought ah I'll have a look.... Couldn't believe how much we had used. I watched a couple of movies on Netflix on a weekend and chewed through 8GB in one day..... Streaming music on Google Music seams to have increased it a bit too.

I used to use about 1gb a day, now we average 6gb/day...

Think of us stuck on satellite with a NBN hard limit of 30GB usable data in any 28 day period!

Those who think wireless (e.g. 5G) is the way to go should perhaps ponder the fact that while most internet connections are by wireless, over 80% of data is transferred by fixed line - the amount of data that can be transferred by radio has definite physical limits. The only way around that is to make the cells smaller, i.e. more towers, so that fewer users are on each tower, and this rapidly gets more expensive than a fixed connection.

While fibre to the node has lower limits than fibre to the end user, both have vastly more capacity per user than any conceivable wireless system, at least for urban population densities

I agree though, that the NBN is a rort. Petty politics wrecks Australian infrastructure again. Skyrocketing costs of power, electricity, water, road tolls and now connectivity. All the basic necessities. It's outrageous.

TPG Telecom shows the first signs of being killed by NBN | afr.com

    TPG takes a dive.

"How can you go from an access charge of $15 to $52 over four years? It's just insane."

Just had a look at the DOT plans Incisor. Too bad they're all limited to 25mbps, still not bad value.

i personally don't need any more than that...

works fine for the business during the day and at night it copes well with 3 hd netflix streams without drama on the adsl2 connection i have at present so in a perfect world it should be even better .... for the same money.

$160 / month including all calls, 2tb data, fixed ip, all my mobiles can call each other for free etc etc etc

    but certainly wont suit everyone...

We went from 1.2 Mbps to 24ish Mbps (25 plan). I think we are paying $5 pm more. On the old copper system we couldn't even stream iview at certain times of day.

If the OP is getting 25 Mbps already you must be on optus cable or really close to the exchange.
