Yes he was tough to work for but he always looked after you.And yes he has mellowed recently, but his drive for perfection was his driving force and some people did not like that. Some are happy to come second but Allan was not. I caught up with him about six months ago, when he was selling memorabilia at his now closed workshops in Malvern. For me it was a very emotional catch up. So I am not sure where your attitudes come from.
Any way I have always been a Ford man but if you get the chance to go for a drive in a V8 super car go for it. Ford or Holden
For me I had my fun as a test driver at the Ford Proving Ground. High speed durability, 8 hour shift, tea breaks, lunch half hour and numerous refuel but, still did 1,111km in that shift. It was a modified test to normal.
As for the later post about the one two finish Bond, was an employee and followed team orders. Admiration for that. Also remember the co drivers. The problem as such with Jackie was he was useto driving more advanced race cars than we had in Australia at the time. On his first drive he came into the pits and said he had no brakes. Allan went out and said that's all we have.
Remember Peter Brock, took over a car after his had failed, to win another Bathurst no admiration in that.
