A bit late now for everyone affected but I went off grid about 3 years ago.

Cost a bloody fortune in legal costs to fight the WA government to be allowed to have batteries in suburbia. The main reason was our current pollies changed the solar laws.

You sell excess to the grid at about 0.08c per KWh you deliver during the day, but at night you have to but back at just under 80c per KWh you use. There was no option but to sell as storage was not allowed.

Well now I run solar to battery and have a small wind turbine on the equivalent of a hills hoist that I put above the fence line (2m high security fence) if my batteries go below 65% to top them up.

Have had no issues since install and no loss of power. Last big blackout in Perth ended up with about 20 odd people round for home made pizza and a movie.

Anyways hope all are safe and the front hitting Perth tomorrow (winds up to 80km/hr last forecast) doesn't intensify and cause more grief on Sunday/Monday over there in SA

Any thoughts on the new Perth company, Power Ledger?

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Rumor is that it was Basil135.

He and his family did a runner to Tassie just before the power went out.

Hi mate, thanks for sharing. Would you mind saying some more details about your system for those of us who are thinking about the idea. Has it been a good move? Would you do anything different?

X2, as this was being discussed at great length in the pub last night as figures upwards of $25000 were being banded about for connection to the grid on some new 'large' blocks around here.

Yep I've already had a rough guide of about $20,000 to upgrade our solar at Maleny, a bigger inverter, a battery bank and some rewiring. No doubt a firm quote would be higher.
However, we've deferred a decision for 2 years because of other priorities, so we shall see what the actual figures are then. Meanwhile I'm keen to hear the experiences of others.
