Thread: Big storm and no power in SA

How the free market has failed electricity consumers, or why privatizing the power industry (as the Liberals did in South Australia) was a bad idea. Actually, it's interesting how many state governments have faced voter revolts when they proposed to privatize the power industry. People seem to regard power as being like water or roads and dislike the idea of selling it off, preferring to keep them in public ownership. To the public, having a reliable power supply is a higher priority than letting some companies make profits.

I hope you all read the attached piece about the disused Kidston mine in Queensland.

I mentioned it in a previous post but no one seemed to care.

I also stated that SA could do exactly the same in any disused mine with enough height to a pit bottom.......most already have an ample water supply in them.

The Kidson Project is indeed in Queensland and not in SA. I'd like to know where SA has a big enough, deep enough mine pit full of fresh water ready to convert into pumped storage. I'm not aware of any myself. I'd imagine that no-one else does either otherwise they would be talking about it. Victorian brown coal pits on the other hand could be suitable.

Was there only 3 weeks ago........... the blue lake at Mt Gambier.

So deep it goes through to some parallel universe apparently, where people work together to solve common problems.

You are a little confused. The Blue Lake is only 70-80m deep, but it is in a parallel universe.

I wasn't even going to mention all the 'ponds' like Piccaninny etc Mick.

The point I was trying to get across is the solution to this problem is only going to be solved in the 'soon' term is if everyone takes a step back, respects each other's opinion and all work together.

Otherwise the rest of the world is going to march right on by.
