I understand what your saying, but therein lays the problem,, let's just concentrate on what his past has been,,, surely there'll be something there we can blame it on. I wonder if the officer had reported the incident, which he should have anyway,, if the kid then had, what supposedly little liberties he has, then taken away from him. More than likely not, because as we all know, you can't treat people like that, so says our do-gooders.Quote:

Kids are difficult, don't come with instructions & change through their young lives. So we need to constantly be adjusting the way we deal with them & how we use discipline.
Our kids are warned twice then they loose something for a while, computer game console, motor bike, school excursion, tuck shop on Thursday etc.
It doesn't always work but generally it does & we reward as well as punish with time on the Tablet or some small item.
Currently SWMBO has introduced a system where when the kids are nice to each other their name is written on a list beside a number, at the end of the week 1 number is drawn & that kid gets extra tuck shop money.
I reckon being a parent is just about the hardest job there is & most people (not all) are pretty much getting it close to right.
Like a lot of parents we think our kids are little Terrorist but when they go out or are in a social setting everybody complements us on their general behaviour & manners. What? Our Kids?
Must be "Domestic Terrorists!"
if you are a parent, just keep doing what you think is right & keep doing your best while not forgetting You have a life as well.

So today i had to do a report on what exactly happened,as did the officers that were involved.
Apparently the kid will probably get a thirty minute talking to by a young psychologist.
It seems most of them are in their early to mid 20's just out of Uni.

I will probably never find out exactly what happens,if anything, as it will be kept confidential.
Things have certainly changed over the years....
IMHO not for the better,but maybe i am from the old school.
As for my life experience,i was the eldest of four boys,born over a period of five years.We were absolute shockers,very difficult to control.I am 100% sure without the very strict discipline from my parents, some of us would have ended up in big trouble with the law.
Ask any of us today,and we all agree,the best thing that ever happened to all of us was that strict discipline.
I also understand what you're saying, but rehabilitation is not about blame or punishment.Quote:

I NEVER "HIT" my son, but I did smack him on the bottom, or on the back of his legs a couple of times, and it was, only a couple of times. After that, there was no need, because He knew that if He simply behaved like his Mum & Dad did, there was no worries.
It's not just smacking, and I have no problem at all with a smack, NOT to the head, but I do not agree with hitting.
Of course this isn't the first time I've spoken about this. AFAIAC there are too many do-gooders in this World, and we are all paying the price,..."softly softly",..yeah right.

We have been contractors working in these centres for over 25yrs.During that time i have seen myself how things have got softer and softer for the inmates,or YP's(young people) as they call them in the youth centres.
I can give you one example,if we arrived to work in an inmate area,20yrs ago the crims would be sent out immediately into the excersice yard and locked in there until we had finished.If they had to be in there for an hour or so,bad luck.If it was a hot day,bad luck.If they were half way through lunch or breakfast,bad luck.
Today,we have to wait around,until they have had their lunch or breakfast,had a drink of milk,bla,bla,wasting our friggin time.:mad:
And then eventually they are in the yard,locked up.Then after 10minutes,they start complaining,want to come in for a drink,need to go to the toilet,etc,etc.
And this is only one small example of how things have changed,for the worse IMHO.

Now the desert idea is great, we need a canal dug from the Kimberley directly south down the border.. With Argyle and Fitzroy supplying it, should have plenty for Adelaide as well as Perth.. No more water restrictions, no more complaining crims, what more do we need...
Crims be too busy working to complain, those that cant swing a hammer or pick, can grow food for the workers...All problems solved...
Come to think of it, be a good place to retire, got something to do and lovely country out there... :-)
