Dear Agony Aunt
Now and then I watch some programs on TV about 4-wheel drives. They all seem to be identical. They always tell me I need
Bigger wheels
Wider tyres
Upgraded suspension
Bull bars
Extra lights
Lifts
Lockers
Chain saws
Generators
Extra batteries etc. etc , the list goes on and on.
I've managed to travel the Outback now for a number of years in an old Series L/R without any of the above gear.
It got to the point now where I feel left out. I already started to develop an allergy to checker plate.
What am I doing wrong ?
Regards
A concerned traveler

You're obviously not consuming enough stuff from the associated 4x4 industry. C'mon! get on with it. Buy some stuff you'll never need or use. Heck, why not go for enough lights to replicate an atomic bomb detonating. That's good for a start.
WHAT!!!! You don't have Max Trax, a kangaroo jack & a fluoro handled shovel strapped to your roof/spare tyre? Well don't venture in to a large supermarket then as those items are obviously needed there!
You didn't mention shiny, new rod holders either.
God, we're cynical old farts hey!
Steve
(Yes, I have rod holders on my 'tilly but I use them a lot & not just for fishing rods plus, they're folded in behind the bar.)
What is required is a decent stereo and selection of favorite listening , especially useful if the navigator is giving directions from a map held the wrong way about !
Len beadel made all those mistakes too, and Tom Kruse, apart from the LR of course
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Clancy's gone to Queensland Rovering, and we don't know where he are
I just plug in my old iPod classic with its 50 gig of music and set it to play from start to finish. I'd be interested to discover how many Big Laps I could do before I heard the same song twice. Yet to find out.
